The Baltimore County Fire-Rescue Academy (FRA) ensures the readiness of all Baltimore County first responders. Technical and customized training is provided for all career and volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel.

Registration

  • Spring 2012 course registration is now open. To view available MFRI courses currently being offered through the Baltimore County Fire Rescue Academy, visit the Spring 2012 Course Offerings page. Register for MFRI classes through the MFRI web site.
  • The Baltimore County Fire Rescue Academy will only be accepting registrations for Academy Status classes. We will no longer be accepting/processing MFRI class registrations at the FRA office or this web site. 

EMS

Visit the Fire Rescue Academy's EMS site for information on EMS training and certification. 

  • EMT Recertification Process: Maryland and National Registry EMT-I and EMT-P recertification is required every two years. For additional information on renewal requirements and recertification procedures, visit the ALS recertification site.
  • Registration is now open for ALS Refresher, September 2011 through January 2012. To view information on refresher offerings, visit the ALS Refresher 2011-2012 page.
  • View the EMS site for information on upcoming EMS education and certification. 

Suppression

Visit the Fire Rescue Academy's Suppression site for information on suppression training and certification.

  • Special Interest Bulletins: The newest Special Interest Bulletin (#2) reviews guidelines for emergency response to the new Chevrolet Volt, a high voltage electric vehicle. If you have any ideas or articles for Special Interest Bulletins, please put them together and e-mail them to Fire Director Blackwell at the FRA.

MFRI Medical Clearance

Effective July 1, 2011: Any member, Career or Volunteer, must submit the MFRI Medical Clearance form for acceptance into the following classes:

  • Firefighter I
  • Firefighter II
  • Firefighter Survival & Rescue
  • Hazardous Materials Technician
  • Confined Space Rescue
  • Swiftwater Rescue

Previous medical clearance and/or physical can be no older than three (3) years.

MICRB

Are you currently a MICRB (Maryland Instructor Certification Review Board) instructor? MICRB has now authorized an "online" PDF form for initial certification and recertification. FRA sponsored instructors need to return the completed form to Lt. Mark New at the FRA, at least thirty days prior to their recertification date.

Professional Qualifications

The professional qualifications board validates certification credentials on an ongoing basis. Results of recent professional qualification board meetings may be found on the ProQual site.

CPR Classes For Citizens

The Fire-Rescue Academy offers classes in cardiopulmonary resuscitation for the general public on a bi-monthly basis. A copy of the 2012 CPR brochure (PDF), including course details, dates and registration information is available.
