Hazardous Materials Operations Training
Two new courses are now available for volunteers for 2010 HazMat Ops Training. Please contact Scott Dundas at sdundas@baltimorecountymd.gov to register for these courses.
Note: This is a change in registration procedures. Registration is no longer being accepted on the electronic Form 4 for these classes.
- HazMat Operations - Core Competencies: This class is designed for entry level EMS personnel at volunteer stations. This class will review the operations core competencies established by NFPA 472 and will provide the required HAZMAT training consistent with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 for EMS ONLY responders. This class can be used with other pre-requisites to obtain a BLUE PAT TAG consistent with TACTICAL 06. ** A White Tag requires completion of a MFRI HAZMAT OPERATIONS COURSE.** No PPE is needed for this class. Maximum Class Size: 30 Students.
- 2010 HazMat Operations Refresher: The 2010 HAZMAT Refresher will be conducted at the Brooklandville Fire Station (Station 14 - 10017 Falls Road Lutherville, MD 21093). The course will last approximately three hours. Course content will include a review of HAZMAT recognition and identification, use of the ERG, use of MSDS, a review of the metering equipment used in Baltimore County, and a review of product control equipment (Absorbent and Kitty Litter). No PPE or equipment is needed for this course. Class size is limited to 45 students per session. Classes will be offered on the following dates:

Wednesday 9/29 at 1900 (B Shift)
Saturday 9/25 at 0800 and 1300 (A Shift)

Wednesday 10/6 at 1900 (A Shift)
Saturday 10/9 at 0800 and 1300 (D shift)
Saturday 10/16 at 0800 and 1300 C shift)

Using Hand-held Radiation Survey Equipment
CDC has posted a new skills training video: Screening People for External Contamination: How to Use Hand-held Radiation Survey Equipment. This 18-minute video demonstrates how to screen people for external contamination using a handheld Geiger Mueller Detector.
