Commission For Women

The Commission for Women was established by an act of the Baltimore County Council on January 3, 1997.  The Commission consists of 25 members; 14 appointed by the County Executive, one appointed by each County Council member and four ad-hoc members form the county Department of Health, Social Services, Education and Human Relations Commission.

The purpose of the Commission is to:

  • Develop an information and referral system for services in the county related to the needs of women.

  • Serve as an advocate for women's issues.

  • Disseminate information, which contribute to meeting the needs of women.

  • Offer recommendations on matters relating to sex discrimination and equal rights and opportunities.

  • Investigate conditions, which demonstrate unmet needs of women and work to remove inequities in such areas as housing, recreation, employment, education, community services and others.

The Commission for Women has as its priorities the publication of an information and referral guide, monitoring legislative issues of interest to women and honoring Baltimore County women who have made significant contributions to the community.
