Towson Liberal Arts Ribbon Cutting
August 30, 2011

Thank you Dr. Welsh. It is an honor to be here this afternoon to participate in the opening of Towson’s new College of Liberal Arts.

Ever since it first moved here in 1910 as the Maryland State Normal School, Towson University has been an important part of both Baltimore County and our County Seat. The tens of thousands of men and women who have pass through this school have gone on to make our County, our State, and our nation the places they are today and we are all the better for it.

This building is in keeping with the fine academic traditions that have allowed this school to flourish over the past 100 years, but it represents so much more than that. It has been 30 years since Towson University last built an entirely new academic building. During that time, Towson has grown to become one of the most preeminent schools in not just Maryland, but in the entire Mid Atlantic region. It has enriched this County both economically and culturally in ways that few could have foreseen three decades ago. This building does not only represent the immense progress that this school has made in that time. It embodies the exciting possibilities that lie ahead for it and for our County.

This is a great day for Towson and this is a great day for Baltimore County. Congratulations.
