Today is a wonderful day for Towson as we celebrate the opening of the newest wing of the Towson Town Center Mall. For more than forty years, this shopping center has enriched this community by providing high end stores and restaurants in the heart of downtown Towson. The Towson Town Center Mall has helped make this neighborhood a premiere destination for shoppers throughout the entire region. With new restaurants like the Cheesecake Factory and P.F. Chang’s and new luxury stores such as Burberry and Pottery Barn (which is making its proud return to Towson Town Center), we know that this location will continue to be a magnet for shoppers and diners looking for the best. We are especially pleased to welcome the retailers and restaurants that are new to Towson. You are becoming an important part of one of Baltimore County’s most vibrant communities. Towson is rich with history, beautiful neighborhoods, strong schools, and unlimited opportunity. Everyday, businesses, Goucher College and Towson University, and residents of Towson are working together with Baltimore County to create new and exciting opportunities for the people who live and work here. Today’s grand opening is more evidence that the renaissance of Towson is alive and well. Over one billion dollars in development is underway in downtown Towson, and is the largest private sector investment in Towson in decades. Over 1,800 new condos and apartments are under construction, bringing more residents to downtown Towson to shop, dine, and enjoy downtown living. A new entertainment center with movie theatres, shops and restaurants is under way at Towson Circle. These are all exciting projects, and with the design of this new wing at Towson Town Center, and its impressive line-up of merchants, the bar has been set high for the renaissance of Towson. I thank Chuck Crerand, Lisa Bisenius, and everyone at Towson Town Center. Your hard work and commitment to quality have kept this one of our region’s finest shopping destinations. With today’s expansion, I know that it will continue to be a successful part of downtown Towson for years to come. I also thank Bill McDermid, Dave Lazas, and General Growth Properties for their continued confidence in Towson as a commercial destination. I know you won’t be disappointed. Congratulations to everyone on this outstanding expansion.
