Congratulations to those of you being promoted today. You have all proven to be exceptionally good at the work you do, and you deserve the recognition that comes with being promoted.
I have had several opportunities as County Executive to speak with police officers. Each time has been different, but I include some common themes.
I don't think it is possible to say thank you enough. As an attorney, a judge and now County Executive, I have seen the dangers you face, the sacrifices in your personal lives and the difference you make in our community. When I see men and women committed to police work, committed to making our community stronger, it gives me hope and joy.
It is worth saying every time that police officers are the face of Baltimore County Government. Every call you get, every citizen you meet, how you conduct yourself and level of professionalism you bring to the job reflects on all of us. I think our police department does a wonderful job, and in earning the promotions you are receiving today, all of you have shown that this police department and this government can be counted on to help people.
For this group, I have an extra request. You have shown that you are dedicated to your jobs and your communities. You have shown a willingness to work a little harder. You are an example to our citizens. As you go back to work today, one grade higher, be an example to your fellow officers.
When young men and women in our police department look up the ranks, I want them to see leaders, and excellent police officers. I want them to know that honesty, hard work, and concern for citizens and their fellow police officers is what it takes to move up. I want them to see the best of the best.
I know all thirteen of you represent the best this department has to offer. I thank you for your hard work, and congratulations.
