Welcome the the Executive Office

Barletta Willis Ribbon Cutting

June 17, 2004

I am very happy to welcome Barletta Willis to Baltimore County and to celebrate yet another milestone in the renaissance of Baltimore County.  I would like to thank Governor Ehrlich, Senator Mikulski and State Senator Stone for being here today as well. The arrival of Barletta Willis is a great opportunity not just for Baltimore County but also for the region and the State, and I am happy to share this great moment with so many great leaders.

A Landmark Moment

This is a community with a strong industrial tradition, going back to the early years of the twentieth century. It is a community with a solid work ethic, and a strong commitment to helping businesses thrive.  As the economy and the needs of the country have grown and changed, Sparrows Point has seen a lot great companies. The arrival of Barletta Willis is another landmark moment, and a great way to continue our tradition.

Here in Baltimore County, we have understood the potential of this area for many years. I am excited that Vin Barletta and his team at Barletta Willis see that same potential and are making a serious investment here. Barletta Willis is joining a great group of businesses here. We are seeing a resurgence of steel making at ISG just up the road, and many, many port-related business are finding a new home at the Colgate Business Park.

Moving Forward

As County Executive, I can tell you that all of these new business - and the ones that have been here a while too - will have a willing partner in Baltimore County. By working together, we can make certain that Baltimore County Works, and that our renaissance continues to move forward.
