Dear Friends of Baltimore County,
I believe that clear communication with constituents is essential to effective government. That is why, during the course of my administration, I have attended over 70 different community meetings, hosted 14 Renaissance Roundtables, and been invited to speak with numerous Chambers of Commerce and business groups.
And as our nation struggles to lift itself out of the most severe economic crisis since the Great Depression, it is more important than ever that the people of Baltimore County understand how their government is working for them. That is why we are adding two important new features to the Baltimore County web site - Baltimore County Upfront and Ask Jim Smith.
Baltimore County Upfront
Launching on March 1, Baltimore County Upfront is a video webcast in which I will answer questions about the current events that are impacting our communities. In the first edition, I answer questions regarding what kind of funding Baltimore County will receive from President Obama's stimulus package. This new feature will be updated as issues arise and can be found in the lower right hand side of www.baltimorecountymd.gov
Ask Jim Smith
The second feature is Ask Jim Smith, in which I will answer questions directly from you, the people of Baltimore County. This video webcast will be located in the County Connection, a biweekly e-newsletter about the latest news and events in our communities. Every two weeks, I will select questions submitted by County Connection subscribers and respond directly to their concerns in the latest edition of the e-newsletter. While I will not be able to answer every question submitted, every question will be referred to the County's constituent services office for follow up. If you are interested in subscribing to County Connection, you can do so at www.baltimorecountymd.gov/subscribe.
In Baltimore County, our residents are not just our constituents, they are our partners in building the future of Baltimore County. That is why I am excited about these new opportunities for the people of Baltimore County to connect with their government. I look forward to talking with you soon and answering your questions.
Sincerely,
Jim Smith
Baltimore County Executive
