Abandoned Boat Removal Program

Photograph of an abandoned boat.

The Capital Program & Operations (CPO) administers a pro-active derelict boat program, funded exclusively by state grants through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Baltimore County has the delegated authority to remove and dispose of abandoned vessels as directed under §8-721 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, Natural Resources Articles.

Utilizing the DNR grant funds, the Department of Environment Protection and Sustainability (EPS) has been removing an average of three to six abandoned vessels per year. No County funds are used; this program is funded entirely by state grants. Use of these grant funds are prioritized based on navigational safety and environmental impact.
