Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Options

Join Baltimore County residents in protecting the environment by recycling or properly disposing of household paints and chemicals at one of our drop-off centers or one-day collection events. Our full service drop-off facility at Eastern Landfill is open Monday through Saturday. The Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability (EPS) has more information about household hazardous wastes (HHW) and the importance of ensuring their proper disposal.

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Centers

There are three drop-off centers in Baltimore County which accept some selected household hazardous waste materials throughout the year. Their locations, hours of operation, and materials accepted are listed below.

Eastern Landfill

Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Materials Accepted:

  • Household paints (limit 20 gallons per delivery per day)
  • Household chemicals
  • Automotive fluids including gasoline
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Swimming Pool Chemicals
  • Mercury thermometers and thermostats
  • Flourescent light bulbs (limit of 10 bulbs per delivery per day)
  • Rechargeable batteries
Central Acceptance Facility
201 W. Warren Road
Cockeysville, Maryland 21030
Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Materials Accepted:

  • Motor oil, anti-freeze and gasoline
  • Mercury thermometers and thermostats
  • Flourescent light bulbs (limit of 10 bulbs per delivery per day)
  • Rechargeable batteries

Western Acceptance Facility
3310 Transway Road
Halethorpe, Maryland 21227
Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Materials Accepted:

  • Motor oil and anti-freeze
  • Mercury thermometers and thermostats
  • Flourescent light bulbs (limit of 10 bulbs per delivery per day)
  • Rechargeable batteries

Household Hazardous Waste One-Day Collection Events

All the materials accepted at the Eastern Landfill (plus ammunition, fireworks and flares) are also accepted at the one-day collection events that are typically held at the Western Acceptance Facility in the fall of each year and at the Central Acceptance Facility in the spring of each year. The date of the upcoming one-day drop-off event is typically scheduled two to three months in advance.
