Welcome to the Department of Economic Development

Alpharma Building in Baltimore County, Maryland.

Baltimore County has the resources and the know-how to help businesses thrive. Our diverse business community of more than 22,000 companies can be found on corporate campuses in White Marsh, Hunt Valley and Owings Mills, in research and development facilities at UMBC and Towson University, inside federal headquarters of the Social Security Administration and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and in the neighborhood shops of our traditional downtowns. With nationally recognized public schools and a variety of tight-knit communities, Baltimore County is more than just a great place to do business. It is a great place for the people who make businesses work.

Baltimore County is committed to a renaissance of commercial communities as they mature, so they stay vital, attractive places to live and work.  Lively main streets with renovated shopping areas and dynamic town centers are replacing aging strip malls.  New tax credits are available to help maintain and restore historically significant properties and to encourage construction of high performance green buildings.  We can assist with site selection, financing, workforce, development and training.  We can help you make the most of Enterprise Zones, tax credits and international trade opportunities.

New regional partnerships offer opportunities to maximize the economic impact of the influx of defense communications jobs moving to Central Maryland as part of the federal base realignment.  The long awaited extension of Maryland Route 43 in Middle River has opened a new 1,000 business community in eastern Baltimore County.  The Hunt Valley Town Centre, anchored by Maryland’s first Wegman's grocery, is drawing capacity crowds.  Construction is underway at the Metro Center at Owings Mills, a transit-oriented town center anchored by a public library and community college, main street retail, offices and homes.  Our professional staff can fast track projects through the development process.  Businesses turn to Baltimore County Economic Development to advocate with regulatory agencies, facilitate the development approval process and link to problem solving resources.

Baltimore County is now Maryland's second largest job center.  When your company is ready to expand, relocate or add new employees, contact us for confidential assistance.  We invite you to share in our success.
