White Marsh is a planned 2,000-acre, mixed-use community adjacent to I-95. Designated an official growth area in 1983, White Marsh is one of the fastest-growing areas in the county. White Marsh has seen more than 3.8 million square feet of business development in the past decade. Clusters of financial, insurance and health care operations, light manufacturing, technology and distribution surround a vibrant town center. GM Powertrain's $225 million manufacturing facility opened in 1999 on a 65-acre site near Maryland Route 43 at Interstate 95. The 400,000 square foot plant manufactures transmissions for light and medium duty vehicles. Companies such as Fed Ex Ground and Charming Shoppes east coast distribution center have chosen White Marsh for its direct I-95 access. Johns Hopkins, Kaiser Permanente, MedStar Health, Comcast, Ikea, and Metris maintain significant regional operations centers in White Marsh.
White Marsh master developer Nottingham Properties, has opened new business sites in the Franklin Ridge office park, White Marsh Commerce Center and Nottingham Ridge. A Town Center is anchored by the 1.1 million square foot White Marsh Mall and The Avenue, a “Main Street” retail and entertainment center.
