Techcenter@UMBC is a technology incubator program operated by UMBC, which houses approximately 30 start-up companies. Idea Lab is a part of the Techcenter@UMBC designed to help UMBC students and faculty develop businesses. 19 companies have graduated since its inception in 1989; nearly all (79 percent) are still in business. Techcenter@UMBC has successfully helped eight companies acquire SBIR, TEDCO or MIPS funding over the last year.
The techcenter@UMBC three-building complex is a fully-equipped facility for emerging companies. The main building is a 4-story facility with full-service elevators, handicap accessible, on-site dining overlooking the city, and state-of-the-art conference and seminar rooms.
bwtech@UMBC Research and Technology Park
Bwtech@UMBC, a 41-acre research and technology park at the University of Maryland Baltimore County campus, is just minutes from BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. Park tenants such as software developer RWD Technologies can access Internet 2's next generation capabilities. The university's six research centers attract over $89 million in annual funding, including the UMBC Center for Advanced Studies Photonics Research (CASPR), and UMBC's Bioinformatics Research Center. The techcenter@UMBC incubator offers shared resources for start-up and emerging companies.
Johns Hopkins University contains many institutes, centers and affiliates that research everything from medicine to public policy. Hopkins’ research institutions are truly special and make the Baltimore metro region a unique place to live and work.

University of Maryland Medical Center
Located in downtown Baltimore City, The University of Maryland Medical Center has a variety of departments devoted to research in numerous fields. UMM is home to the renowned Shock Trauma center as well as research centers devoted to multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, diabetes and hearing.
