Regional Business Communities' Overviews

Eastern Baltimore County, conveniently located by our waterfront communities, is home to some of the metropolitan area's largest employers, including GM Powertrain, Severstal North America, Inc, and Lockheed Martin.  Interstate 95 runs through the corridor, linking to rail, air, and deepwater port facilities. Over $800 million of recent private, State, and County investment encourages the development of this area as an employment-intensive center near Baltimore City. (retail in Dundalk / Essex)

Baltimore Crossroads@95A new 1,000 acre mixed-use business community located between White Marsh and the Baltimore County waterfront is under construction.  This new business community will have direct access to I-95, Martin State Airport and an Amtrak/MARC station.  Land is zoned for manufacturing, distribution, office, R&D, and technology-based businesses.  Baltimore Crossroads @95 will include five million square feet of flex/office, office, warehouse and industrial space, and approximately 400,000 square feet of retail space.

Hunt Valley-I-83 Corridor is the County’s northernmost employment center.  It separates dense suburbs from protected rural areas and lush valleys to the north and west. Corporate headquarters include McCormick, Millennium Chemicals, Procter & Gamble Cosmetics Division, AAI, and BD Diagnostic Systems, which attract workers from the Baltimore region and southern Pennsylvania.

Owings Mills features Class-A corporate campuses and flex parks flanking a regional mall, restaurant park, and proposed Town Center adjacent to the Metro station. Corporate or division headquarters include Sweetheart Cup, Baltimore Life Companies, ADP, CareFirst-BlueCross/BlueShield of Maryland, and Aether Systems. (retail in Reisterstown)

Towson is the Baltimore County seat located north of Baltimore city adjacent to I-695, York and Joppa Roads.  Towson is the home of County government and its many related departments, agencies and services.  The headquarters of Black and Decker and Whiting Turner, and the regional headquarters of Lafarge are located in Towson.  A high concentration of professional services and several important universities are found in this part of Baltimore County.  (retail in Towson)

White Marsh is a 2,000-acre, mixed-use community adjacent to I-95.  Designated an official growth area in 1983, White Marsh is one of the fastest-growing areas in the County.  The past decade has seen more than four million square feet of business development.  Clusters of financial, insurance and health care operations, technology R&D, light manufacturing and distribution surround a lively Town Center.

Woodlawn is a center for federal government headquarters, government contractors and business services.  Woodlawn's business centers offer a mix of office, flex and manufacturing sites conveniently located on Both I-70 and I-695.  The Social Security Administration, Medicare, Medicaid, and Alpharma have their headquarters here. (retail in Woodlawn)
