Estate Recoveries, Inc.

Credit collection services firm has leased 12,485 feet a 415 Williams Court in Baltimore Crossroads @95. The company will employ 70 in their new location.

Vendlease

Vending industry equipment financing firm has purchased 3.5 acres at 8100 Sandpiper Circle. The company will build a 12,800 square foot company headquarters and employ 20.

ZeniMax Online Studios

Video game and new media company has leased 40,000 square feet at 200 International Circle for a new online division specializing in the Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) market. The company is recruiting and will employ approximately 20 at start up.

Peerce's Plantation/Signature Catering

Baltimore County approved a $16,000 term loan for exterior and interior improvements to the Dulaney Valley Road property. After an estimated $250,000 in renovations, Signature Catering will use the property as a catering facility.

United Partners LLC

Baltimore County approved a $60,000 Building Investment Loan to United Partners, LLC for renovations to 1017 Reisterstown Road in the Pikesville Commercial Revitalization District. The property will be used as an adult day care facility.

February 2008

Phoenix Metals

Sheet Metal and HVAC duct manufacturer has purchased a 8,000 square foot facility in the new White Marsh Business Park on Days Cove Road. The company employs 35.        

U.S. Census Bureau / CSC                  

Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has contracted with the U.S. Census Bureau and has leased 200,000 square feet in Marshfield Business Park in Rosedale to conduct state operations for the 2010 Census. The Census will hire over 1,000 full and part time employees to gather and input data for the project.

3 Scoops, LLC

Baltimore County has approved a $60,000  Building Investment Loan to 3 Scoops, LLC, the owner and operator of the Friendly’s Restaurant on Merritt Boulevard in Dundalk.

Baltimore Packaging

Packing and shipping materials company has leased 59,970 square feet at 2301 Grays Road in Dundalk. The company employs 20 at the warehouse facility.

Maryland Port Administration

The Port Administration has purchased the former Mestek site located at 10 Maryland Avenue in Dundalk to consolidate with existing port property. The 5.5 acre parcel was purchased for $3,200,000.

Capital Funding Group

Full service provider of comprehensive financing solutions for healthcare facilities nationwide has leased 20,000 square feet in the new CFG office tower on Clarkview Road in Ruxton. Capital Funding Group, which employs 30, focuses exclusively on the long-term care, assisted living and hospital sectors.

December 2007

Black & Decker

Fortune 500 global manufacturer of power tools and accessories headquartered in Towson has contracted with Maryland Aviation Administration to build a new corporate hangar at Martin State Airport in Middle River. Project and facility upgrades will include $5 million in capital investment. The company also has received a $46,00 training grant from the Baltimore County Office of Workforce Development to conduct Six Sigma training for 47 employees.

McCall Handling

Material handling equipment company has purchased the 133,000 square foot facility at 8801 Wise Avenue in Dundalk. Capital investment is $2,300,000. The company employs 110.

AAI

Defense firm has invested $1,000,000 at its Cockeysville headquarters, where the company designs, engineers and builds unmanned aerial vehicles for military use. AAI also is adding 40 new jobs.

Alphon, Inc.

Approved a $60,000 Building Investment Loan for exterior and interior improvements to the property in the Pikesville Commercial Revitalization District. The project includes construction of two new service bays and parking lot improvements

November 2007

ARS National Services, Inc. White Marsh

National collections services company has expanded into 16,000 square feet on Franklin Square Drive in White Marsh. The company will retain the workforce of departing Asset Acceptance, and plans to expand to over 100 employees.

C. Steinweg, Dundalk

Prot transfer & logistics services company has expanded into 188,000 square feet at 5107 North Point Boulevard.

Fast Signs, White Marsh

Signs, printing, vehicle decals, and display design firm has leased 5,000 square feet at 11600 Crossroads Circle in Baltimore Crossroads @95.

Global Payments, Owings Mills

Credit payment management company is expanding in their existing facility on Red Run Boulevard, with capital investment of $3 million. The company has added 275 new jobs for a total of 800 jobs.

Salvatore Anello III., Arbutus

Approved a $40,000 loan for exterior improvements to the building at 1331 Sulphur Spring Road in the Arbutus Commercial Revitalization District. Improvements include the replacement of the roof and the installation of new siding.

October 2007

T. Rowe Price, Owings Mills

Investment management company announced it will construct two new buildings with two garages on their Owings Mills Financial Center Campus. The company will add up to 1,400 new jobs, with a total capital investment of $180 million.

U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Catonsville

United States Geological Survey's Maryland-Delaware-District of Columbia Water Scient Center Mid-Atlantic has moved into a new 23,500 square feet building at bwtech@UMBC, the UMBC Research Park. The federal government operation employs 80.

Fairfield Inn, White Marsh

Skye Hospitality, LLC is constructing a new 100,000 square feet hotel on Mercantile Road. The company anticipates creating 60 new jobs and make a total capital investment exceeding $12 million.

September 2007

457 Main Street, LLC

Has been approved for a $60,000 Building Investment Loan for interior and exterior improvements to the property in the Reisterstown Commercial Revitalization District. The property is currently vacant and once the improvements are completed the property will be leased as office space.

iMagicLabs

An automobile dealership customer relations management software, system and service firm has moved to Owings Mills from Novato in Marin County, Calfornia. The Company will create 100 jobs by the end of 2008.

McCormick

The Fortune 500 spice and food flavorings company headquartered in Sparks has expanded their spice and sauces production and distribution center. The company has invested $20 million in a 115,000 square feet good addition to their Cockeysville distribution center. The expansion retains 100 jobs and adds an additional 100 jobs to the center.

Global Payments

Business services company that processes credit cardds and money transfers, is adding 275 workers at its Owings Mills facility on Red Run Blouevard. The company is expanding its international operations and soon will be running 24/7.

Environmental Quality Resources

An environmental restoration company, has moved its corporate headquarters from Gaithersburg to a seven-acre industrial site in Arbutus in the Southwest Enterprise Zone. The company has built a 21,000 office/warehouse building and a native plant nursery. The compnay employs 130.

Winner Distributors

Has leased 302,000 square feet in the Eastport Industrial Park on Quad Avenue in Dundalk's North Point Enterprise Zone.  The beverage distributor will employ 225 in the distribution facility, with capital investment exceeding $2,900,000.

Terminal Corporation

A warehousing and logistics firm will operate a transfer center for gypsum wallboard at 2950 Dundalk Avenue. Company will employ 80 in the center.

Chimes

A vocational work services firm has leased 10,800 square feet for a light assembly center at 8515 Kelso Drive in Rossville. Company will employ 50 in the business operation.

Matthai Material Handling,

A forklift truck and services firm has leased 29,845 square feet at 11600 Crossroads Circle in the Baltimore Crossroads @95 business park. The company is a family run firm and will employ 16 in offices, sales, and service.

Shire Pharmaceuticals

Conducted a week-long training program for over 300 plant and research and development employees. Baltimore County provided training funds.

June 2007

International Nutrition

A supplier of specialized nutritional and dietary supplements, has leased 11,000 square feet on Crossroads Drive in the Baltimore Crossroads @95 business park. The company will employ 16 workers and anticipates further expansion.

Tessco

A supplier of wireless telephone products, hand sets and cell towers, is expanding, leasing an additional 65,000 square feet on McCormick Drive for warehouse space. 

CFG Tower,

A new six story 55,000 square feet office building on Clarkview Road, is under construction in the Falls Road/Towson corridor.

Fernco, LLC.,

Was approved for a $20,000 Building Investment Loan for interior improvements to property leased by the Canopy Restaurant in the Baltimore National Pike Commercial Revitalization District. Total project cost is estimated at $38,000.

Pikesville Revitalization District

Properties were approved for tax credits and Architect-On-Call professional architectural services:  Architect on Call completed for Weinreb-Friedman Diamonds at 1312 Reisterstown Road; Commercial Revitalization Tax Credits approved for the retail/office building at 4001-4003 Seven Mile Lane and the redeveloped 1400 block of Reisterstown Road.

Multiserv Inc.           

A provider of outsourced, on-site mill services to the global steel and metals industries, has opened a slag handling and metal recovery process facility at Mittal Steel in Sparrows Point. Capital investment is $3 million and the company will employ eight.

Citigroup

Operational support center for financial services is expanding and relocating to a new Red Brook Road location in Owings Mills. The company will retain 180 jobs and add 25 new jobs.

Multi-Properties, Inc.

Was approved for a $40,000 Business Improvement Loan for exterior improvements to the property at 100 Church Lane in the Pikesville Commercial Revitalization District. Over $62,000 in improvements include new windows, insulated panels and masonry work.

Canton Kayak Club

Has opened a new location at Anchor Bay Marina in Dundalk.

Architect-On-Call

Professional design assistance provided for 2914 Dundalk Avenue, 210 Eastern Avenue, and Caves Travel located at 1308 Reisterstown Road in Pikesville.

TowsonGlobal,

Towson University’s Business Globalization Center, has its first two tenants.  Transending Cosmetics,  a developer and marketer of corrective makeup used in medical settings, and Exis Inc., a developer of video game content and media used for entertainment and modeling and simulation. 

Franklin Square Hospital

A facility of MedStar Health, is developing a five story medical tower at their Rossville campus. At completion of the $225 million, 388,000 square foot building the hospital expects to add 300 employees.

Cargill

A salt packing plant, is adding a new product line in their 77,000 facility on Philadelphia Road in White Marsh. Capital investment is $2,000,000.

Baltimore Crossroads @ 95   St. John Properties

Has leased space in the 1,000 acre Middle River business park to Surety Recovery Management, Matthai Material Handling, Brinks Home Security, International Nutrition, Trans Union, and XIGroupAuto.  

Baltimore Rigging,

A rigging and millwright company, has completed their move from Philadelphia Road to a 20,000 square foot facility on Lake Drive in the Rosedale Industrial Park.  The company employs 180.

Chesapeake Manufacturing           

An electronics manufacturing service provider, has expanded to a 20,000 square foot facility on Clubhouse Road in Cockeysville and will be adding 10 new jobs.

Fritz Enterprises

A slag processing and reclamation services firm in the North Point Enterprise Zone, is opening a new operation at Sparrows Point. Fritz will employ 30 with $5 million in capital investment.

Omaopa Enterprises, LLC   

Baltimore County approved a $60,000 loan for interior and exterior costs associated with the construction of a new 1,500 square foot building in the Baltimore National Pike Commercial Revitalization District.  Total project cost is estimated at $275,000.

Corporate Office Properties Trust            (COPT)           Baltimore County Attraction

Publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT) has acquired the commercial/office portfolio of Nottingham Properties. Portfolio purchase was $362.5 million for 55 properties in White Marsh, Owings Mills, and the BWI corridor totaling 2.4 million square feet and 187 acres of land.

Lyon Conklin & Company                Middle River               Attraction

Heating, air conditioning services division of Wolseley, Inc. has opened a new facility at 9610 Pulaski Park Drive. The company has leased 17,600 square feet and employs 18.

KCI Technologies                           Sparks                      Expansion

Employee-owned engineering firm is building a 120,000 square foot “green” headquarters building in the Highlands Corporate Office Park in Sparks. The building will house over 400 civil engineers, environmental scientists, surveyors, planners, and construction professionals.

MarquipWardUnited                         Cockeysville              Assistance

Producer of corrugated box manufacturing equipment received training assistance for 18 employees.

37 Walker Avenue, LLC.                           Building Investment Loan

Baltimore County provided a $60,000 loan for interior and exterior improvements to 37 Walker Avenuein the Pikesville Commercial Revitalization District. The office building will undergo $300,000 in renovations.

BGE HOME                                 Middle River              Attraction

Home improvement and services company is expanding their business and consolidate operations to a new headquarters facility to be built at Baltimore Crossroads @95. The 55,000 square foot facility will employ 200 immediately, and up to 400 over the next few years. Capital investment is $11,000,000.

Cargill                                         White Marsh             Assistance

Company is adding a new product line in their 77,000 square foot salt packing plant on Philadelphia Road in White Marsh. Capital investment in the new product line is $2,000,000.

Baltimore Rigging                       Rosedale                    Expansion

Rigging and millwright company has completed their move from Philadelphia Road to a 20,000 square foot facility on Lake Drive in the Rosedale Industrial Park.  The company employs 180.

Chesapeake Manufacturing                        Cockeysville Expansion

Electronics manufacturing service provider has expanded to a 20,000 square foot facility on Clubhouse Road in Cockeysville, and will be adding 10 new jobs.

Maryland Metals Processing, Inc.              Business Growth Loan Fund

Baltimore County provided a $315,000 loan for the expansion of the manufacturing facility located in the North Point Enterprise Zone.  The $1.6 million expansion project includes the construction of a 10,000 square foot addition and the purchase of equipment for a new metal processing line. Maryland Metals currently has 68 employees and is adding 12 new jobs will be created as a result of the expansion.

Goetze Candles                        Dundalk                Attraction-NorthPoint Enterprise Zone

Baltimore candy manufacturere has leased new distribution/manufacturing space at 7001 Quad Avenue in the North Point Enterprise Zone Dundalk. The compnay, which employs 200 wokers, will operate in 73,250 square feet in the Eastport Industrial Park.

Comprehensive Logistics           White Marsh          Attraction

Transportation logistics company has partnered with GM Powertrain to provide logistics support, warehousing, and delivery of automotive materials and manufactured transmissions. The compnay has leased 122,280 square feet at 10001 Franklin Square Drive in White Marsh.

Windspeed Logistics LLC          Dundalk                Expansion/North Point Enterprese Zone

Transportation, logistics and warehousing division of Cowan systems has leased 87,000 square feet at the recently updated complex at 5107 North Point Boulevard. The company employs 26.

Erickson Retirement Communities           Catonsville/bwtech@UMBC

Retirement community developer is moving its TV network for senior citizens and the firm's information technology department and charitable foundation into a new office building at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County's technology park. The 110,000 square foot building represents a $20 million capital investment.

December 2006

S.W. Betz Company                 Rosedale            Attraction

S.W. Betz Company has leased a new material handling equipment and scales facility at 7014 Golden Ring Road. Betz employs 10, and anticipates further expansion.

Kroff Materials Processing        Dundalk             Expansion

Kroff Materials Processing is expanding its business to operate a material recovery process line to process mill scale and other organic materials at Mittal Steel.  The line will lower the hydrocarbon content of the materials. The company anticipates adding 19 new employees as the project comes on line.

ULMA Form Works                 Dundalk              Expansion

Concrete forms company is adding warehouse space to its Baltimore County operation. ULMA Form Works is leasing 70,000 square feet at 8203 Fischer Road in Dundalk, and expects to add four workers at the new warehouse.

Beynon Sports                     Timonium              Assistance

Beynon Sports, designer and manufacturer of sports surfaces, for indoor and outdoor venues, has received training and technical assistance from the County, impacting 20 employees.

SSOC II, Inc.                          Building Investment Loan

Baltimore County approved a $60,000 Building Investment Loan for interior and exterior improvements to the property located in the Pikesville Revitalization District. The total project cost is estimated at $1 million.

Once the property is renovated the building will be occupied by a real estate broker and a mortgage broker.

State Farm Insurance          Dundalk                 Assistance

State Farm Insurance office is moving to new offices located at 2819-K North Point Boulevard. The company employs 6 and capital investment exceeds $350,000.

Maryland Metals Processing      Dundalk-North Point Enterprise Zone

Metal products manufacturer is completing a new 12,000 square foot warehouse and has added a new product line at their facility on North Point Boulevard. Maryland Metals employs 65 at the facility.

Enabling Technologies     Glen Arm - Assistance

Information technology consulting practice specializing in communications integration will receive training assistance that will impact 10 jobs.

Harmony Properties East, LLC.     Essex Building Investment Loan

Baltimore County approved a $60,000 Business Investment Loan for interior and exterior improvements to Harmony Properties, located in the Essex Commercial Revitalization District. When completed, the $80,000 project will be used as a chiropractic office.

Maryland Route 43    Extension

The 3.8 mile road construction project connecting Route 40 in White Marsh with Eastern Avenue in Middle River opened to traffic October 23. Two major business parks, Baltimore Crossroads@95 and Windlass Run Business Park, are developing properties to provide office, technology, flex, distribution and manufacturing space to new and expanding businesses. Consultants project as many as 10,000 new jobs and $460 million in private capital investment in businesses adjacent to the road extension.

CoStar   White Marsh   Attraction

CoStar, a provider of information services to the commercial real estate industry, is opening a new business division at 8140 Corporate Drive in White Marsh. The firm has leased 38,000 square feet of office and research space and will employ over 250 in the new division, with capital investment of $1,600,000.

Signius    Rosedale   Attraction

Call and contact center has moved to 6959 Golden Ring Road in Rosedale. Signius employs 100 in their new offices, with capital investment of $900,000.

SC&H    Sparks   Attraction

SC&H, a business services firm providing accounting, auditing and management consulting services, purchased and renovated a 56,323 square foot building at 910 Ridgebrook Road in Sparks. The new facility will accommodate up to 300 employees, including 50 new positions. The move represents over $9 million in capital investment.

Restoration Hardware    Rossville   Expansion

Specialty hardware chain has expanded their distribution and warehouse facility to 710,000 square feet in the Marshfield Business Park in Rossville. Restoration Hardware employs 175 at the site.

Shire Pharmaceuticals    Owings Mills   Expansion

Owings Mills pharmaceutical manufacturer has opened a new 20,000 square foot Technology Center for scale-up production. Shire invested over $6 million in the new Center, and will be adding 40 jobs.

August 2006

Greenbay Packaging    Cockeysville   Retention

The paperboard box manufacturer purchased the assets of Caruastar and is retaining 150 jobs at its Cockeysville plant. Greenbay is investing $7 million to upgrade the facility. The State and County provided training assistance to support a major Enterprise Resource Planning system.

Shops at Quarry Lake-The Fresh Market    Greenspring   Attraction

The Shops at Quarry Lake will be anchored by Maryland's first location for The Fresh Market, a 20,000 square foot, family-owned gourmet grocery store based in North Carolina. The Shops at Quarry Lake are the retail component of a new 230-acre mixed use community under construction on Greenspring Avenue, just south of I-695 in Pikesville.

Parksite Plunkett Webster   Dundalk   Expansion

Parksite Plunkett Webster, a wholesale distributor of exterior and interior building materials, has leased 120,000 square feet at 2950 Dundalk Avenue. The company is investing $900,000 in capital improvements, and will employ 45.

Carchex  Hunt Valley   Attraction

Carchex, a provider of pre-purchase automobile inspections, has moved to Baltimore County. The company employs 100 at its new 10,000 square foot facility on Clubhouse Lane in Hunt Valley.

Cowan Systems  Halethorpe   Expansion

Cowan Systems, one of the top 100 trucking companies in the U.S. by size and profitability, is building a new $9 million corporate center and headquarters on Hollins Ferry Road in Halethorpe. The new location will enable the company to double its current 600 current employee/contractor jobs within five years. 

Atlantic Nationwide Trucking    Dundalk   Expansion

Atlantic Nationwide Trucking is investing $1 million to expand its trucking facility in the North Point Enterprise Zone in Dundalk.

U.S. Geological Survey    bwtech@UMBC   Attraction

Maryland-Delaware-District of Columbia U.S.Geological Survey Water Science Center is moving to a new $4.2 million 23,500 square foot building at bwtech@UMBC, the UMBC research and technology park. Sixty jobs will relocate from the USGS White Marsh facility.

May 2006

Ball Corporation/U.S. Can    Dundalk Expansion /North Point   Enterprise Zone

Ball Corporation, which recently purchased U.S. Can, has leased 115,000 square feet at Eastport Business Park on Quad Avenue for storage and distribution. Manufacturing remains on Todds Lane in Rosedale. The company employs 136 in their steel tin operations, and has added digital print to their product line.

Plexus Com Group   Woodlawn   Expansion

Engineering firm providing network integration services is expanding into an additional facility of 15,000 square feet on Ambassador Drive. Ten new manufacturing jobs will be created and the company will receive training assistance.

Shire US Manufacturing   Owings Mills   Expansion

Shire, a pharmaceutical manufacturer, acquired nearly 14 acres at the Rosewood Technology Park on Gundry Lane for future expansion. The $2 million capital investment is in addition to a new Technology Center on the company's Owings Mills campus.

The VIN   Towson   Attraction
Towson has another new restaurant with the opening of the VIN. The new restaurant's menu, described as classic comfort meets European sophistication, includes gnocchi, rockfish and a selection of flatbreads. The dessert menu offers mini-dishes for $2 each, and premiums wines are offered by the glass from an extensive wine list.

April 2006

Maryland Precision Spring   Rossville   Expansion
Maryland Precision Spring, the spring manufacturing firm located on Kelso Drive has relocated to allow for expansion. The building has expanded to 70,000 square feet with an $800,000 capital investment. Employment will expand by 25 over the next two years.

Architectural Columns   Woodlawn   Expansion
Architectural Columns is expanding form sales and installation to also become a manufacturer and assembler of aluminum architectural columns and railings. The additional facility of 15,000 square feet in Woodlawn will house 10 new manufacturing jobs. The county will provide training assistance to the new employees.

C. Steinweg International   Dundalk /North Point Enterprise Zone   Attraction
The transportation and warehousing firm is expanding into 80,000 square feet in the former Ivy Steel building. The Port warehouse company will employ 7 at the facility, representing a  $300,000 capital investment.

Renegade  Productions   Hunt Valley   Expansion
Renegade Productions, the advertising and media production agency will expand from 44 to 66 jobs leasing a new 25,000 square feet space including a 6,000 square foot studio and sound stage. Renegade’s new facility, triple the size of its previous headquarters, allows the company to grow its local and national client base and broaden its array of services, which currently include television commercial production, short or long-form programming, print, interactive web design and corporate training programs. The project represents a $500,000 capital investment. 

Bakery Express   Halethorpe   Expansion
The bakery is consolidating its County and City operations into a single facility. Bakery Express is planning to build a 150,000 square foot building and employ 325 workers. The building and its facilities will cost an estimated $12,000,000.

Champion Billiards and Barstools Inc   Hunt Valley    Attraction
Champion Billiards and Barstools Inc., a game room furnishing store that sells pool tables, video games, bars and other game room furnishings, will relocate to a 9,000 square foot space in Hunt Valley's open air shopping center.

Plow and Hearth   Hunt Valley    Attraction
Plow and Hearth, an upscale furnishing store for the home and garden, will open its second Maryland location at Hunt Valley Towne Centre.

February 2006

GM Powertrain   White Marsh   Expansion
GM Chairman & CEO Richard Wagoner and County Executive Smith announced GM’s investment of $118 million to upgrade its GM Powertrain Baltimore Transmission plant. The White Marsh plant will build a new, rear-wheel drive two-mode hybrid vehicle transmission. The investment is expected to create up to 150 new jobs at the eastern Baltimore County facility.

Bakery Express   Halethorpe / Southwest Enterprise Zone   Expansion
Provided a $500,000 loan of which the proceeds will be used for the redevelopment of a site on Hollins Ferry Road. The project includes the demolition of the existing building and construction of a new 150,000 square foot commercial bakery.

Reactive NanoTechnology   Hunt Valley   Expansion
Reactive Nanotechnologies, a manufacturer of thin film to join similar and dissimilar products, is expanding in Lakeside Business Park. Ten new manufacturing jobs to be created with the County providing assistance in training.

Avatech   Owings Mills   Expansion
Avatech, a reseller and designer of customized software solutions for Autodesk/Auto CAD products is adding 20 new jobs to the 45 existing with the County providing training assistance.

The Pharmaceutical manufacturer has constructed an 40,000 square foot addition to accommodate its warehouse expansion in Owings Mills. Fifty new jobs will be added.

Senesco, LP   Dundalk/North Point Enterprise Zone   Attraction
Senesco, LP , the shipbuilding company has leased the Graving Dock shipbuilding basin at Sparrows Point Shipyard for construction of barges. The company will bring 120 new jobs to the shipyard.

Fraley & Schilling Trucking   Dundalk/North Point Enterprise Zone   Attraction
The national trucking firm, Fraley & Schilling Trucking, has purchased a site for a Baltimore regional center in Dundalk. The new location will employ 45 in the 130,950 square foot facility. A capital investment of $2 million was spent on  the purchase and upgrades of the site.

Middle River Aircraft Systems   Middle River   Expansion
Middle River Aircraft Systems (A division of GE) has been selected by Boeing Co. to develop a thrust reverser system for the airplane manufacturer's 747-8 jumbo jet, a contract that could be worth up to $1 billion over the program’s life cycle projected to be continue to 2019. 210 new engineering and manufacturing jobs will be created.         

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson   Sparks   Assistance
Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson , the Civil Engineering firm, was awarded $24,000 to train 31 employees in information technology skills.

Pharmaceutics International Inc.   Hunt Valley   Expansion
The Pharmaceutical manufacturer has purchased a 72,000 sq.ft  for expansion of its operation. 40 new manufacturing jobs to be created.

Riverwatch Restaurant and Marina    Essex    Expansion
The Essex Marina  is investing an estimated at $100,000 in the waterfront business. Improvements include a new façade, parking lot improvements and the installation of new landscaping, new flooring and interior decorating.

Grainger Corporation  Rossville   Assistance
Publicly traded industrial supply and tool distributor has redesigned its Citation Road facility. The redesign entailed a capital investment of $350,000 for the 44,000 square foot location.

MAC Machine Woodlawn   Assistance
MAC Machine, a precision machine shop, is expanding and adding new equipment. The company will retain its 60 employees and expects several new hires. Baltimore County has provided recruitment and training assistance.

Environmental Quality Resources   Attraction   Halethorpe
Environmental Quality Resources,
an environmental construction company, is moving its corporate headquarters from Gaithersburg to Halethorpe. The company will develop the 7 acre industrially zoned site in Baltimore County's Southwest Enterprise Zone for an office, warehouse, and a native plant nursery. EQR will bring 125 new jobs to the County.

Shire Pharmaceuticals
, a manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals, has added 115 new workers, bringing total employment to 340. Construction of the company's new 20,000 square foot Tech Center and laboratories is nearing completion.

Carchex

a company offering a national network of inspections, warranties and buying services for used vehicles, is moving its headquarters to Clubhouse Road in Hunt Valley. The firm will be bringing 100 new jobs to the County.

Foligo LLC    Attraction   Catonsville
The new start up company, Foligo LLC, has located in the techcenter@UMBC in Arbutus. Foligo is developing new cancer therapeutics targeting specific receptors largely unique to cancer cells.

Honeygo Run Reclamation Center   White Marsh   Expansion
Honeygo Run Reclamation Center, a construction materials landfill will expand operations onto an adjacent 50 acres. The $50,000,000 capital investment will allow for the retention of 25 jobs and the continued support of the local building industry.

ULMA Form Works   Rossville   Attraction
ULMA Form Works, a concrete forming and shoring supplier has leased 48,250 square feet on Kelso Drive in Pulaski Industrial Park. The company expects to hire 15 new employees.

Alexander’s Mobility    Middle River Attraction
Moving and storage company has signed an agreement to build a new facility at Baltimore Crossroads @95 on the new Maryland 43 Extension. Company will employ 150 at the new facility.

Electric Motor Repair   Rossville   Attraction
Equipment and commercial appliance repair company, Electric Motor Repair, has expanded and relocated to a facility in Rossville on Yellow Brick Road.  The new facility will employ 60, with a capital investment exceeding $1 million.

Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine   White Marsh   Expansion
The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine's Clinical Practice Association (CPA) has consolidated and expanded operations in a new 55,000 square foot building at Franklin Ridge in White Marsh. The physician group practice represents all the clinical departments and full-time faculty physicians of the medical school.

San Sushi Too/Thai One On   Towson   Expansion
Downtown Towson restaurant San Sushi Too/Thai One On is taking over a former Ritz Camera store that closed in 2004, with the expansion slated to be completed in a couple of weeks.

Martin's Caters   Cockeysville   Expansion
Martin's Caters will open a 35,000 square feet, banquet and catering facility in the Cranbrook Shopping Center in Cockeysville. Martin's will hire 80-100 new employees. The facility will feature three-ballrooms and is scheduled to open late 2006.

Invoke Systems, a fast-growing customer relationship management software company and Microsoft partner, is moving to a technology park on the campus of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The company, which employs 40, anticipates adding 20 staffers next year.

K Bank   Owings Mills   Expansion
K Bank has moved its corporate office to a new space in Owings Mills, doubling the size of its old office. The new corporate office is located on Cronhill Drive, houses the bank's 110 employees. The new 52,000-square-foot location offers employees an expanded break room and a fitness center. Continued growth at all divisions of the firm prompted the need for new office space.

Worldpac   Woodlawn   Attraction
Worldpac, a wholesale auto parts distributor, has opened its first Baltimore-area warehouse in the Meadows Industrial Park in Woodlawn. The 33,200 square foot building on Whitehead Road employs more than a dozen managers, warehouse workers and truck drivers.

American Business Information Systems   Owings Mills   Expansion
The d
irect mail company, American Business Information Systems Inc., is expanding into a 43,000-square-foot building near its Owings Mills headquarters. The company announced it leased the former Ambec Inc. building, located on Dolfield Road. The company performs data processing, laser and inkjet personalization. Clients include banks, insurance firms, non-profits and large companies. The new building will accommodate the company’s large-volume printing and mailing services.

Benjer, Inc, a demolition, and  residential/commercial waste services firm, has moved their expanded operations to Earls Road in White Marsh. The company employs 32 at the 25 acre facility and capital investment exceeds $675,000.

Trugreen/Chemlawn   Rosedale   Attraction
The lawn-care company has purchased a site on Ann Avenue in Rosedale. Trugreen/Chemlawn employs 35 at the 17,000 square foot facility and anticipates further business growth. The capital investment for the facility and  equipment was $600,000.

S.A.R. Metal Products Company     White Marsh Attraction
Metal manufacturer, S.A.R. Metal Products Company, has purchased and upgraded facilities on Philadelphia Road in White Marsh. The company currently employs 9.

Convergent  Technologies   Catonsville   Attraction
Convergent Technologies, a Federal contractor in information technologies and security, is locating in the bwtech@UMBC Research and Technology Park.

Solo Cup   Owings Mill   Expansion
Solo Cup, producer of cups and paper products, is adding more production lines and expanding their workforce.

Zannino’s Catering    Essex   Expansion
Zannino’s Catering received a loan d to make interior and exterior improvements to the property located at 7770 Gough Street in Essex, Maryland.  Improvements include the complete replacement of interior space, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems. The new space will also include a new commercial kitchen. Total project cost is estimated at $553,000. The company currently has 25 employees and the company will create seven new jobs over the next 18 months.

A new casual Asian-style diner from PF Chang's China Bistro — is coming to a strip center in
Towson on York Road at the City-County line. PF Chang's is headquartered in Scottsdale, AZ. Another testament to Towson's strong retail community and great demographics, the new location is the first in the Mid Atlantic

Active Services Corporation   Owings Mills  Attraction
Active Services Corp., a 10-year-old operator of medical adult day care centers, is moving its headquarters from Alabama to Owings Mills and is expanding the number of care centers from 39 to 58 with a $15 million acquisition. Active Services will grow through building new centers and acquiring existing centers, including eight in Maryland. The company plans to scale up to 60 employees within the year.

Acadia Windows and Doors   Middle River   Retention/Assistance
Acadia Windows and Doors, a manufacturer, has leased 53,950 square feet on Todds Lane in Rosedale. The company anticipates capital investment of $1,300,000 and expanding with a new manufacturing line that will increase employment to 100.

Helmut Guenshel, Inc.   Middle River   Assistance/Expansion
Helmut Guenshel, Inc., a museum display manufacturer, is expanding to an additional 17,000 square feet at their Emala Avenue facility.  The company’s cabinets hold displays in the Walters Art Museum, Smithsonian, and Harvard rare books collections. The expansion represents a capital investment exceeding $400,000. The business employs 32.

Dejana Truck & Utility Equipment Co., Inc.   Dundalk   Attraction/North Point Enterprise Zone
Truck and utility equipment manufacturer and assembler, Dejana Truck, purchased an existing facility on Rolling Mill Road. The company will operate a new division building cube and specialty trucks at the 75,900 square foot facility. Dejana Truck anticipates hiring 100 employees in the next three years, and capital investment is $5,000,000.

University of Maryland Baltimore County   Catonsville   Assistance
The University’s Research Park Corporation will receive a $2 million grant from the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. The funds will be used for build out of specialized space in future building, such as wet labs.

Edwards and Kelcey   Catonsville   Attraction
Edwards and Kelcey, a national engineering, design, planning and construction firm. is locating its regional office at bwtech@UMBC, the UMBC Research and Technology Park. Expansion plans an additional 25 new transportation engineers and planners.

Lockheed Martin   Woodlawn   Expansion
Lockheed Martin Information Technology of Sea Brook- a division of the defense and systems giant based in Bethesda, Maryland- is expanding its Woodlawn presence. The new building on Windsor Boulevard will house an additional 100 employees handling work for the Social Security Administrations.  Positions in information technology are available. Lockheed Martin Information Technology employs more than 1,100 information technology workers in the Woodlawn area. Read more

Creative Systems and Design, LLC, an electro-mechanical systems research, design and development company, is locating in techcenter@UMBC.  Founded by UMBC mechanical engineering professor M. "Appa" Anjanappa, Creative Systems and Design, fills the gap between research and realization of commercial products, with expertise in microphones, electronic displays, mechatronics, smart sensors/actuators, and mechanical design.

Carvel Corporation   Hunt Valley/ Towson   Expansion
Carvel Corporation, the ice cream shop, plans to open several new stores in the Baltimore area over the next two years. A location on York Road, and a second in Hunt Valley are expected to open this year. Each store represents a $250,000 investment excluding the real estate costs.

Lifebridge Health   Greenspring    Expansion
LifeBridge Health, Inc. has signed a lease for a 60,000 square feet of Class “A” office space at Quarry Lake at Greenspring. Lifebridge Health has been named the exclusive medical institution provider at Quarry Lake at Greenspring, and intends to lease the office space to physician groups in its health network. It will be utilized by physicians specializing in internal medicine, cardiology, orthopedics and plastic surgery, among others, as well as for various clinical and medical uses.

The Quarry Lake at Greenspring  is a 230-acre mixed-use community under development just off Beltway Exit 22 on Greenspring Avenue. Upon completion, Quarry Lake at Greenspring will feature more than 225,000 square feet of office space, 112,000 square feet of retail space and nearly 600 residential units.

Danaher Power Tools   Sparks   Expansion  
Danaher Power Tools has consolidated and expanded their operation moving the administrative headquarters from Hunt Valley to Sparks. With additional hires, the company will employ 150 persons.

George, Miles & Buhr, LLC   Sparks   Expansion
George, Miles & Buhr, the architectural and engineering firm, has relocated from Hunt Valley to Sparks. The new 11,000 square feet office will allow for expansion to 50 employees.

Cowan Trucking   Halethorpe Expansion
Cowan Trucking plans to construct a new 30,000 square feet headquarters in Halethorpe. After construction the company plans to expand to 325 employees.

Wal-Mart   Towson   Attraction
Wal-Mart Stores has opened a new store in Towson on Putty Hill Avenue on the site of a vacant Montgomery Wards in Towson Place. The 154,000 square foot stores will feature 36 departments including a pharmacy, photo lab and vision center.

Grand Brands – True Lemon   Rossville   Attraction
Grand Brands – True Lemon, a new food manufacturing company in Rossville, has created a crystalline lemon product. The company occupies 13,000 square feet and employs 15 for a capital investment exceeding $500,000.

Norris Honda    Dundalk   Attraction
Norris Honda has added a new Honda dealership at Merritt Boulevard in Dundalk. The new 75,000 square foot facility represents a capital investment of $5,700,000. The new dealership will employ 75.

Corporate Office Interiors   Middle River   Attraction
Corporate Office Interiors, an interior design and planning firm has opened a new office and warehouse facility in Pulaski Business Park. The company will employ 40 in the new 32,500 square foot facility.

Porter’s Seneca Marina   Middle River   Expansion
Porter’s Seneca plans to construct a new maintenance building and make improvements to the marina site. The total project cost is estimated at $250,000.

April 2005

Raloid Corporation   Reisterstown   Expansion
The 41 year-old company signed an agreement with BioDefense Corporation to produce and distribute the MailDefender, a mail decontamination unit. The Mail Defender destroys toxins and pathogens that could be potentially distributed through the U.S. mail, leaving the envelope and mail intact. The company will relocate to its new Hunt Valley location and expects to add over 100 new jobs to the 64 it currently employees.

The r
egional baking company has added 10,000 square feet to an existing facility in Rossville. This represents a $10 million capital investment in facility upgrades and new equipment at the Rossville facility. Once up and running, 25 new jobs will be added to the existing base of 250.

Tower Point at the Highlands    Sparks    Expansion
Berwind Property Group Ltd. has purchased a 232,000 sf corporate campus on Ridgebrook Road in Sparks for $24.4 million. Tower Point at the Highlands includes three Class A buildings, formerly headquarters for Integrated Health Systems. The property is being leased through Preston Partners of Lutherville, MD.
 
Dundalk Village Shopping Center     Dundalk    Assistance
The historic Dundalk Village Shopping Center was sold to a corporation headed by developer Jack Jacob. The village, a Frederick Law Olmsted design, will be renovated to include market-rate apartments, offices and upgraded retail. A $1.5 million Baltimore County loan and a $500,000 County grant will assist the developer with renovations and common area maintenance.

Hunt Valley Towne Center    Hunt Valley    Attraction
Two new womens retailers have singed leases for stores in the new Hunt Valley Towne Center. Chico's and White House/Black Market join twenty-three other retailers, primarily representing an array of restaurants and apparel stores, have signed leases totaling more than 90,000 square feet of space at Hunt Valley Towne Centre in Hunt Valley, Maryland with Greenberg Commercial Corporation. The merchants join Wegmans Food Market, which is opening its first Maryland-area supermarket at the project this summer, and Greetings & Readings, which announced last year its intentions to open a 28,500 square foot store in Hunt Valley. The Owings Mills-based real estate developer is undertaking a comprehensive re-development program at the former Hunt Valley Mall which, upon completion, will feature more than 980,000 square feet of retail space, including 260,000 square feet in an open air "Main Street" environment, as well as various pad site locations.

Breakaway Limited, the Interactive game and training software company, expanded from their Hunt Valley location to larger 25,000 square foot corporate headquarters facility. The new building will allow the company to expand from 60 to up to 120 workers. Breakaway is best known for their strategy, city builders, and historical simulations games including, Tropico, Waterloo, Cleopatra, and Austerlitz, and also provides simulation training software to the United States Armed Forces.

Firaxis Games    Hunt Valley    Expansion
Firaxis Games, a developer of games such as Sid Meir's Civilization III, Pirates!, SimGolf, and Alpha Centauri, is expanding their employment by 10 jobs.  Founded in 1996 the independent game design studio has released nine "triple-A" products in eight years and is recognized as a global industry leader.

Axalto    Owings Mills    Assistance
Axalto, a leading provider of microprocessor cards (smart credit cards) for point of sale is expanding their technical capabilities and product line. The $4 million capital investment will create 29 new jobs. Axalto received job training assistance through Maryland Department of Business & Economic Development.

Barber Mechanical    Middle River Assistance
The heating and air conditioning contractor has purchased site on Ebenezer Road for a new business location. A capital investment for the project will exceed $600,000 on the 2 acre site. The company employs 8 workers, and expects to expand.

Old Navy   Timonium   Attraction
The national clothing retailer has opened a new store on Ridgely Road in Timonium on the site of the former Caldor's. The store will employ 40.

Venture Trailers, a boat trailer manufacturer has purchased the former Worthington Armstrong Venture facility located on North Point Boulevard. The 10-acre facility and manufacturing equipment represents a $2 million capital investment. Venture plans to hire 100.

Thompson Industries  Dundalk Attraction/ North Point Enterprise Zone
Thompson Industries, a cabinet manufacturing company, has purchased a 75 thousand square foot facility to expand their business. Thompson will employ 48 with a capital investment of $1,400,000 in the North Point Enterprise Zone

Resun Leasing   Rosedale Attraction/North Point Enterprise Zone
Resun Leasing, the third largest company in the modular space industry, is consolidating several locations to Rosedale. The ten acres at the site will allow for the continued expansion.
