Saft America Inc. Honored with 2010 New Directions Award

Towson, Md. (October 12, 2010) Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith will honor Saft America, Inc., Space and Defense Division with the 2010 Baltimore County New Directions Award.  The award, given to a company that exemplifies the quality and future direction of the County’s business community, will be presented at the November 18 Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce Business Hall of Fame Dinner.

“As a leader in the development of advanced battery systems, Saft America’s Space and Defense Division is consistent with Baltimore County’s vision of a broad based, well-educated, technologically advanced business base,” said Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith.  “Their lean manufacturing processes exemplify the efficiency needed to keep companies competitive in today’s global economy.”

Saft’s Space and Defense division in Cockeysville specializes in the research, design and manufacturing of advanced lithium-ion battery systems and produce the highest power density electrochemical cells in the world.  These energy storage systems are used by NASA and the U.S. military for powering components of satellites, astronaut packs, manned and unmanned vehicles, aircraft, submarines, missiles and other equipment.  Saft America is a subsidiary of Saft Group SA, a Paris based company with locations in eighteen countries.

The November 18 awards dinner at Hillendale Country Club will also honor individuals inducted into the Baltimore County Business Hall of Fame within the past 25 years.  Tickets to the dinner are available by calling 410-825-6200.
