Workforce Resources for Businesses
A skilled workforce is a critical component in attracting and retaining businesses in any economy. As a result, the most successful economic development programs are those that effectively integrate workforce development programs and services. In 2011 Baltimore County’s Office of Workforce Development became part of the Department of Economic Development, a major step that positions the combined agency to provide seamless service to both businesses and individuals seeking employment.
With the guidance of the Baltimore County Workforce Development Council, the department’s new Division of Workforce Development acts as a broker for initiatives designed to develop a skilled workforce.
The Workforce Business Services Team
The department’s dedicated Business Services team provides employers with a streamlined point-of-contact to coordinate customized solutions to meet specific workforce needs and save time and money. The Workforce Centers prepare area residents to meet today’s ever changing business requirements. Baltimore County’s team works in partnership with the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR). Services include:
- Workforce Recruitment. The team provides access to an active and diverse candidate pool ranging from management level professionals to skilled laborers with expertise in various industry sectors, as well as skilled employees in transition from companies in similar industry sectors.
- Workforce Training. Through our Workforce Development System, we invest funding to offset the costs of training new hires. On-the-job training and apprenticeships are also available, based on the availability of funds. We can also promote a company’s internships, apprenticeships and on-the-job training opportunities to candidates at our Workforce Development Centers.
- Workforce Downsizing. Downsizing your workforce is often an unfortunate situation for both the business and affected employees. Our professional staff can provide “Rapid Response” outreach and works with each organization to assess its needs and provide support to employees before their employment ends. Outplacement services are customized to each company’s circumstances.
