Four shopping centers anchor the corners of Loch Raven and Taylor Avenues in northeast Baltimore County, each profiting from convenient access to I-695 and Baltimore City. Shoppers from throughout the Baltimore metro area come for a unique gift from Greetings & Readings, one of the area’s largest specialty gift shops. Families enjoy Maryland crabs at the Crack Pot restaurant, with sports fans flocking to the original Bill Bateman’s. The Bel Loc Diner’s neon has been attracting patrons for more than 40 years. The Zagat-rated Orchard Market & Cafe attracts diners for unique Persian cuisine. Homeowners come to Ethan Allan and Gardiner’s Furniture.
In recent years, the Loch Raven corridor has seen more than $13 million in public and private reinvestment. A $6.5 million streetscape has improved sidewalks, streetlights, curbs, gutters and paving. Private firms have renovated shopping centers, constructed new buildings, and redeveloped a vacant gas station property into a full service bank.
The Loch Raven retail community benefits from a high daytime employment base. From headquarters for Maryland’s Injured Workers Compensation Fund on Loch Raven Boulevard to hundreds of workers at the nearby world headquarters of Black & Decker Corporation, Raytheon, and the Baltimore County Public Safety headquarters.
