From music shops along Frederick Road to the bustling UMBC campus, Catonsville continues a 200-year tradition as a destination for the unique. A major streetscape renovation along Frederick Road recaptures the Victorian feel of the retail area still known as The Village. A turn of the century bank is transformed into offices, an historic school building is now the Bloomsbury Community Center, and the old Moose Lodge is renovated as headquarters for ReVisions, a nonprofit that cares for people with mental disabilities. A concentration of specialty music stores has earned Catonsville the nickname “Music City Maryland.”
Catonsville’s major commercial corridor along Frederick Road is surrounded by solid, stable neighborhoods, with average household incomes of $60,926. Communities are family-centered, with annual events such as the Arts and Crafts Festival and July 4 Parade bringing hundreds to The Village center each year.
Catonsville businesses benefit from the college market, with more than 10,700 students at UMBC and 9,500 students at the Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville.
