Holiday Lighting of Historic Dundalk Village

Towson, Md. (November 20, 2008)—Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith and Councilman John Olszewski Sr. will join community leaders and area residents on Friday November 21, 2008, to celebrate lighting of the historic Dundalk Village Shopping Center.

The County Executive will encourage area consumers to remember the feeling of traditional holiday shopping. "Local businesses offer unique gifts, great restaurants and personalized service," said County Executive Jim Smith. "The holiday experience of shopping in our neighborhood's downtown let us reconnect to our past, when life was slower and pleasures were simpler in nature.

"Shopping in areas such as the historic Dundalk Village Shopping Center also gives us the opportunity to reach out and support our local businesses, many of which are owned by people in our community," added Councilman John Olszewski Sr.

The event sponsored by the Dundalk Renaissance Corporation and JMJ Properties, takes place from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the intersection of Shipping Place and Center Place in the historic Dundalk Village Shopping Center. Choice members of Patapsco High School and Dundalk High School will provide entertainment starting at 5:00 p.m., with the formal program beginning at 5:30 p.m.

After the lighting ceremony, attendees are invited to a "Holiday Cookie Tour" offered by shopping center stores. Each participating business will have a special holiday cookie to share along with the corresponding recipe. The Village Coffee and Tea House will offer hot chocolate.

Baltimore County's "ReDiscover Your Neighborhood Downtown" campaign encourages consumers to patronize local shops and restaurants near where they live and work. Baltimore County's neighborhood downtowns are located Arbutus, Catonsville, Dundalk, Essex, Landsdowne, Liberty Road, Overlea-Fullerton, Parkville, Pikesville, Reisterstown, Towson and Woodlawn Village.
