Towson, MD (August 11, 2008) As part of a continuing effort to increase diversity among the companies awarded local government contracts for goods and services, the Baltimore Metropolitan Council (BMC) is sponsoring a regional procurement expo this September. The BMC's Cooperative Purchasing Committee will host the event on September 16, 2008 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at Martin's West, located at 6817 Dogwood Road in Woodlawn. The Expo will provide businesses an opportunity to network and learn about procurement opportunities with local purchasing officials from the government, public schools, community colleges and libraries in seven municipalities: Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard Counties, City of Annapolis, City of Baltimore and the Maryland Department of General Services. "Local governments, by our nature, purchase a significant amount of supplies and contracted services, but small businesses in particular may not be sure how to tap into that market," said Baltimore County Purchasing Division Chief Deborah Meehan." I would strongly encourage small, minority and women-owned firms to attend the 2008 Procurement Diversity Expo."
