Towson, Md. (July 13, 2009) Since 1938, Washington-area residents have filled their sweet-tooth cravings at Gifford's Ice Cream & Candy. Now, Gifford's gourmet ice cream, ice cream cakes, shakes, desserts and homemade sauces can be found in downtown Pikesville. This is the first franchise and first Baltimore location for a Maryland company whose ice cream and candies have made their way to tables at the White House. "These days, everyone needs a dose of fun," said Susan Levine, co-owner of the Pikesville Gifford's with her husband Michael. "All of Gifford's ice cream are homemade in Silver Spring, Maryland using gourmet ingredients and small batch production." Gifford's celebrates its grand opening at 1433 Reisterstown Road in Pikesville Tuesday, July 14, 2009 with music and free ice cream bars from noon to 2 p.m. Since 2002, downtown Pikesville has seen more than $60 million in private investment, including redevelopment of the Courtyard @ Center Court, where Gifford's joins First Watch restaurant, FedEx office, Ed Mart Delicatessen, and other retailers. Vanguard Equities invested $5 million to redevelop the 1400 block of Reisterstown Road. Baltimore County's Pikesville Commercial Revitalization District runs along Reisterstown Road from the Beltway (I-695) to the Baltimore City line at Falstaff Avenue.
