325 In Attendance for Multi-Generational Workforce Forum

Towson, Md. (June 5, 2008)  Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith today joined over 325 individuals from area businesses, educational institutions and government agencies for “Managing a Multi-Generational Workforce," a forum hosted by the Baltimore County Executive’s Regional Advisory Board for Business and Education at the Towson University Center for the Arts.

The forum featured Neil Howe, a nationally known speaker and co-author of many books about American generations including Generations and Millennials Rising.  Attendees learned about the forces that have shaped each generation’s attitudes, as well as the generational differences that have impacted each age group’s approach to work.

“In today’s economy a company can have four generations of employees working together”, stated County Executive Jim Smith. “This forum offers an opportunity to learn how to create successful cross-generational work environments.’

Representatives of area companies including Genesis Healthcare, Marriott International and Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Services discussed what their businesses are doing to successfully bridge the generational gaps in their workplace.

The Baltimore County Executive’s Regional Advisory Board for Business and Education serves as a forum for business, government and education to address the Baltimore region’s emerging workforce learning needs.  Members include representatives from the Baltimore region's major colleges and universities, the Community College of Baltimore County, Baltimore County Public Schools, the business community, and government.

“Managing a Multi-Generational Workforce” is sponsored by the Baltimore County Executive’s Regional Advisory Board for Business and Education, Baltimore County Economic Development, Baltimore County Workforce Development Council, Towson University, The Erickson School at UMBC, The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, Community College of Baltimore County, Lockheed Martin MS2, Loyola College in Maryland, University of Baltimore, Baltimore Collegetown Network, Goucher College and Villa Julie College.
