Towson, Md. (June 6, 2008) MEDA, the Maryland Economic Development Association, has awarded the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development "Maryland's Best Economic Development Project " honors for the extension of Maryland Route 43 and Baltimore Crossroads @ 95 business park in eastern Baltimore County. The third annual MEDA Economic Development Awards were presented at the 2008 MEDA Annual Conference, held June 1-3. After more than 10 years of planning and construction, the extension of Maryland Route 43 in eastern Baltimore County was officially open for traffic in October 2006. This new $64.5 million, 3.8 mile highway extends from MD Route 43 in White Marsh to Eastern Boulevard near Middle River, linking the White Marsh area with the eastern Baltimore County waterfront. "We are pleased to receive statewide recognition for an initiative that already is bringing new jobs and investment to eastern Baltimore County," stated David S. Iannucci, Executive Director for the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development. The extension of MD Route 43 gave access to a 1,000 acre land tract, the largest available manufacturing-zoned property in Baltimore County. Fourteen companies already have located to the Baltimore Crossroads @ 95 business park, including corporate headquarters for Alexander’s Mobility, BGE HOME, and Pevco. Over 475,000 square feet of office, flex, warehouse and retail space have been completed by St. John Properties, Chesapeake Real Estate Group, and First Industrial Realty Trust. Somerset Construction is master developer of the business park. Once completed, Baltimore Crossroads @ 95 will feature nearly 5.5 million square feet of space, including 2.5 million square feet of R&D/flex/office space, 2.5 million square feet of manufacturing/industrial space and 50,000 square feet of retail space.
