Towson, Md. (April 21, 2008) Baltimore County's Building Investment Loan Program has approved a $60,000 zero interest building improvement loan for Friendly's Restaurant at 1579 Merritt Boulevard in Dundalk. The Family style franchise restaurant, in operation at this location for over thirty years, was acquired by new ownership in October 2007. "We are pleased that we can provide funding to improve the appearance and functionality of a business that has long served the Dundalk community," stated Stanly Jacobs, Chief Financial Officer for the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development. Renovations will be modeled in accordance to new corporate design standards to be released this summer. Plans include improvements to the building facade, parking lot, signage and landscaping as well as new carpeting, lighting and an upgraded HVAC system. The total project cost, estimated at $90,000 is slated to begin this fall. Qualified businesses and property owners located in Baltimore County's 14 designated commercial revitalization districts may apply for zero or low interest loans for up to $40,000 for exterior improvements and $20,000 for interior renovations. Eligible improvements include items such as window and facade replacement, painting, landscaping, signage, electrical and HVAC systems. Businesses may also qualify for free professional design services through Baltimore County's "Architect on Call" program as well as a commercial property tax credit for larger projects. Commercial Revitalization districts are located in Arbutus, Baltimore National Pike, Catonsville-Paradise, Dundalk, Essex, Landsdowne, Liberty Road, Loch Raven, Overlea-Fullerton, Parkville, Pikesville, Reisterstown, Towson and Woodlawn.
