 Games For Health Conference

Towson, Md. (April 1, 2008) Over three hundred health and healthcare professionals, game developers, government program managers, educators and researchers will gather May 8 and 9 for the Fourth Annual Games for Health Annual Conference at the Baltimore Convention Center. Over 30 sessions will explore ways game and interactive technologies can be used for training, health behavior change, medical informatics and electronic medical record systems, physical therapy, and improving cognitive health. Pre-conference events May 7 include programs on Game Accessibility and Virtual Worlds and Health.

"Baltimore's concentration of computer game and interactive technology companies plus our world-class health care and research institutions make the region a perfect location for the Games for Health conference," stated David S. Iannucci, Executive Director of the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development.

Central Maryland has more than 100 companies and research institutes developing new applications for modeling, simulation and interactive technologies.

Funded by the Robert Wood. Johnson Foundation, the Games for Health project is dedicated to exploring and building on the use of games technologies to improve health and health care. In 2007, the Foundation announced a $8.25 million grant to fund new research and continued efforts to build the games for health field.

Humana and the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development are among the sponsors of the 2008 Games for Health Conference.
