Roseda Beef, recipient of a $42,000 grant, raised Black Angus cattle at their northern Baltimore County Roseda Farm and are a supplier of "natural" beef with no added hormones or growth stimulators. Cattle are pasture-raised and grain fed on a strict vegetarian diet on an environmentally friendly farm which actively manages rotational grazing and works to reduce erosion and run off. "Agriculture is a vital part of Baltimore County's economic diversity, adding over $62 million to the stat's economy each year," state Baltimore County Executive Director Jim Smith. The USDA rural development grant program provides financial assistance to rural farmers who produce a value-added agricultural or farm-based renewable energy product. According to the USDA, "a value-added product is created when a producer takes an agricultural commodity, such as milk or vegetables, and processes it or prepares it in a way that increases its value to consumers." Roseda Beef products are marketed to family owned supermarkets and restaurants throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
