Towson, Md. (July 18, 2007) Catonsville was named one of the nation's "Best Places to Live" according to Money magazine. The listing ranked Catonsville 49 out of 100 small cities offering the best combination of economic opportunity, good schools, safe streets, things to do, and a sense of community. "We are thrilled that Catonsville has received national recognition as a great place to live, learn, and grow a business," said Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith. "Of course, we've known it all the time." The magazine noted that "Catonsville is undergoing a renaissance, thanks in large part to the University of Maryland at Baltimore County, which has transformed itself from a commuter school into a dynamic research center." "We were delighted to see Money magazine select Catonsville as one of the Top 100 Places to Live. UMBC has been a proud part of the Catonsville community for over 40 years. As we continue to grow together, we look forward to letting the world know more good things about how Catonsville, UMBC and Baltimore County are a winning partnership," stated Freeman Hrabowski, president of UMBC. The university is credited with attracting high tech businesses that provide jobs to the community. The editors also noted that "even as Catonsville grows, it still remains one of the more affordable areas in the state, and its schools are among the best in the metro area."
