Planning Board Meetings

Pro Bono Day 2013

You are invited to discuss your civil legal problems one-on-one with volunteer attorneys at a legal clinic on Saturday October 12, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the American Legion Post 109, 1610 Old Sulphur Spring Road, Arbutus, Maryland 21227.

This event is free and no registration is required.

Types of issues include:

Baltimore County Commission on Disabilities 23rd Annual Awards Ceremony and Luncheon

The Baltimore County Commission on Disabilities will hold its 23rd Annual Awards Ceremony and Luncheon on Wednesday, October 16, at noon at the Sheraton Baltimore North, 903 Dulaney Valley Road in Towson.

This year, we have 15 winners in categories ranging from Teacher and Student of the Year, to Employer and Family Support. Of note, Mr. Darren Guest will receive this year's Chairperson's Special Award. See samples of Mr Guest's work.

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz will be on hand to present Executive Citations to the winners, and Ms. Kathleen Cairns of WBFF Fox 45 will be our Master of Ceremonies.

Tickets for the event are only $10. All are invited.

CIP Citizen Input Meeting

The Capital Improvement Program will host the Citizen Input Meeting on Thursday, October 17, at 5 p.m. in Room 104 of the Jefferson Building, 105 West Chesapeake Avenue in Towson.

The Baltimore County Planning Board welcomes citizens to participate in the annual review of the Capital Improvement Program for fiscal years 2015 through 2020. The meeting allows citizen comments to be considered as County agencies formulate their requests. The agency requests will be submitted to the Planning Board in January for review and approval.

Big Tree Sale

We are pleased to announce the 8th bi-annual Big Trees Sale hosted by EPS. The Big Trees sale will take place Saturday October 12, 2013. Residents will have the option for several early pick-up dates at our nursery if they can't make it to the sale. This year we are also offering Tree Shelter Kits to better protect trees from deer.

Landmarks Preservation Commission Meeting – Canceled

The Landmarks Preservation Commission meeting will be held on Thursday, October 10, at 6 p.m. in Room 104 of the Jefferson Building, 105 W. Chesapeake Avenue in Towson.

Major Improvement to Water Lines

In October the Department of Public Works will begin renovating 9,200 feet of water line in Dundalk. Conduits which lie between North Point road, Merritt Boulevard, Stansbury Road and Bear Creek will be cleaned and lined with cement to improve water quality and fire protection. This is a long-term project expected to take three years and cost $4.3 million.

Traffic Calming in Dundalk

Riverview Avenue, between Willow Spring Road and the Baltimore City line, recently qualified for traffic calming measures. Traffic engineers from the Department of Public Works have drafted plans to install speed humps on Riverview and are waiting for residents to review and approve the plan before proceeding.

Sewer Rehab in the District

Public Works began relining 10,280 feet of sewer line in Rosedale and Eastpoint in June. The project, which is part of Baltimore County’s agreement with the EPA to eliminate sewer overflows, will cost $698,000.

North Point Pumping Station

Renovation to the North Point Sewage Pumping Station began in October 2012. The $1.79 million project represents a complete rehabilitation of the facility and is expected to be completed by March 24, 2014.

Marlyn Avenue Sewage Pumping Station

Public Works has renovated the Marlyn Avenue pumping stations in the Deep Creek area of Essex. Work began June 6, 2012 and was recently completed. The station (costing $1.8 million) will resume operations upon final inspection approval.

Opening Rules for the Wise Avenue Bridge

The Wise Avenue Draw Bridge can now be raised and lowered for water traffic with notice to the Department of Public Works. To request a bridge opening, call 410-887-8160, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. or the Public Works dispatch number at 410-887-5210.

The Department of Public Works has scheduled minor repairs to the bridge house this fall. The work is not expected to impede traffic.
