In October the Department of Public Works will begin renovating 9,200 feet of water line in Dundalk. Conduits which lie between North Point road, Merritt Boulevard, Stansbury Road and Bear Creek will be cleaned and lined with cement to improve water quality and fire protection. This is a long-term project expected to take three years and cost $4.3 million.
Public Works is renovating the Marlyn Avenue pumping stations in the Deep Creek area of Essex. Work began June 6, 2012 and is expected to be completed soon. The cost: $1.8 million.
Riverview Avenue, between Willow Spring Road and the Baltimore City line, recently qualified for traffic calming measures. Traffic engineers from the Department of Public Works have drafted plans to install speed humps on Riverview and are waiting for residents to review and approve the plan before proceeding.
Public Works began relining 10,280 feet of sewer line in Rosedale and Eastpoint in June. The project, which is part of Baltimore County’s agreement with the EPA to eliminate sewer overflows, will cost $698,000.
Renovation to the North Point Sewage Pumping Station began in October 2012. The $1.79 million project represents a complete rehabilitation of the facility and is expected to be completed by March 24, 2014.
Public Works is replacing the Colgate elevated water tank in Eastwood. The 60-year old tank will be superseded by a structure with a half-million gallon capacity. Work was begun in December 2011 and was originally expected to take about 18 months and cost $1.9 million. Crews will finish this summer.
Demolition of the old tank and site restoration are scheduled to take place in the spring.
The Wise Avenue Draw Bridge can now be raised and lowered for water traffic with notice to the Department of Public Works. To request a bridge opening, call 410-887-8160, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. or the Public Works dispatch number at 410-887-5210.
