EPS Variances
The Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability (EPS) publishes a list of the environmental administrative variance requests along with their status. The requests are listed by County Council District.

Belair Road – TAP Panel Report
On November 16, 2011, Baltimore City and County along with the Urban Land Institute of Baltimore released “Revitalizing the Belair Road Corridor: A ULI Advisory Services Technical Assistance Panel Report.” With the support of Baltimore Mayor, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Baltimore County Executive, Kevin Kamenetz, the report focuses on developing a variety of strategies that aim to revitalize the Belair Road Corridor, which serves as a gateway that links both the City and County. The report includes such recommendations as façade improvements, streetscape enhancements, branding and marketing key nodes along the corridor, as well as ideas for strengthening the communities that live along the corridor. New Water Mains for North Point
Public Works will replace water mains on Fischer Road, Beach Road, Beachwood Road and Lynhurst Road beginning in December. Construction is expected to take about 12 months. The cost: $2.4 million.

Colgate Elevated Water Tank
Public Works will begin replacing the Colgate elevated water tank in Eastwood in December. The 60-year old tank will be replaced with a structure with a half-million gallon capacity. Work is expected to take about 18 months and cost $1.9 million.

Water Improvements in Eastwood
Water lines in the Eastwood Community, off of North Point Boulevard, are being cleaned and cement-lined. In September crews began the project which will improve 35,000 feet of conduit and cost $2.2 million. The job is scheduled to be completed July 2012. In December crews will go on winter shut-down and will return to the job in March.

Coming: Traffic Calming on Wilson Avenue and 45th Street
Traffic calming has been approved for Wilson Avenue and 45th Street near the City-County line. County contractors plan to install two speed humps in December.

Masseth Avenue Pumping Station
Public Works has been renovating a sewage pumping station on Masseth Avenue off of Sparrows Point Road in Edgemere since May. The upgraded facility, which will cost $1.6 million, is expected to be finished by July 2012.

Iroquois Pump Station
Public Works is rebuilding the Iroquois Sewage Pump Station in Edgemere – enlarging the facility to accommodate backup power for emergency operations. The major re-fit, costing $940, 000, began in April and is expected to be completed in March 2013.

Major Improvements to Three Pumping Stations
Baltimore County is investing $13 million to renovate or replace three sewage pumping stations in Essex and Dundalk. The old Dundalk Pumping Station will be completely replaced. Work will cost $5.9 million and be finished in September 2012. Reconstruction of the Duck Creek Pumping Station in Essex began in March and should be completed in June 2012 at a cost of $5.1 million. And work on the East Point Station may be finished by April 2012. Renovation will cost $1.5 million.

Wise Avenue Bridge: Expect Minor Delays
County engineers are making maintenance repairs on the Wise Avenue Bridge. Most of the job will be carried out from a barge moored under the bridge, but some replacement work may require closings for unspecified short periods, say County engineers.
The Wise Avenue Draw Bridge is fully functional and can be raised and lowered for water traffic. Signs have been posted directing opening requests to the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Engineering: 410-887-3737. A 48-hour notice is requested.
