Project Map Check

Baltimore County is working to update the Geographic Information systems and verify residential, commercial, and institutional addresses all around the County. This effort, called Project Map Check, is expected to take place from August 30 through the spring of 2007. During that time, authorized County contractors will visit every public and private structure in the County to validate the address and location information.

Environmental Restoration Project (September Update)

A stream restoration and water quality retrofit project is being completed at the Fields of Renaissance Park (the former Tall Trees site). The improvements include a pond with a fountain, gazebo, benches and trails. The new pond will be fenced in September.

Browns Cove Dredging (September Update)

The dredging of Browns Cove is complete. The dredging of Breezy Point Channel will resume in September.

Duck and Deep Creek Dredging (September Update)

State Permits have been issued and Federal Permits are under review for the dredging of the main channel and spur channels. The project is currently being advertised for construction.

Fleming Park Shore Erosion Control Project (September Update)

The construction of a shoreline enhancement project will begin this fall at Fleming Park. The Fleming Park Shore Erosion Control Project will consist of 3,300 linear feet of shoreline protection. Features include marsh restoration, stone sill, and stone revetment. This project is funded by Baltimore County and Maryland Department of Environment.

Clean Shores Program (September Update)

Edgemere Water Line Project Expanded (September Update)

Water lines for the entire Edgemere community are being cleaned and lined this year as part of a $3.5 million two-year project to improve water quality and enhance fire protection. The improvements begun last September (2005) and now 80 percent complete will impact about 1,500 area residents.

Wise Avenue Bridge Closed after August 5 (September Update)

In early August the Wise Avenue Draw Bridge was closed for repairs while Baltimore County's contractor begins renovating the span's 60-year old electrical system and making mechanical and structural repairs. The span is expected to be closed for nine months and the entire rehabilitation project which will take about 14 months is projected to cost $2 million. During construction traffic will be detoured from Merritt Blvd. to German Hill to North Point Blvd. Trucks will be detoured from Merritt Blvd. to North Point Road and then to North Point Blvd. While work progresses the water lane under the bridge will be kept open.

Water and Sewer on Kelso Drive (September Update)

Baltimore County is planning a major sewer and water project on Kelso. More than two miles of new water main through Rossville, Kelso, Martin Boulevard, and Transverse Avenue will be installed beginning in the late fall. Construction will take more than a year and cost about $4.5 million. Also this year, crews will rehabilitate a sewer line along Kelso Drive. Work should be completed by the end of the year and is expected to cost about $424,000.

New Sewer Line for Edgemere (September Update)

In June Public Works began replacing the Lynch Point Force Main in Edgemere which has been deteriorating for several years. (The project, incidentally, complies with federal consent decree recommendations to improve the County's sewer system.) The new line will take six months to complete (the target date is October) and is expected to cost just under $1 million.

Water and Road Work on Grays Road (September Update)

In May, County contractors began replacing a deteriorating 36-inch water line in Grays Road, from Wise Avenue south. This major rehabilitation job expected to cost about $1.4 million is 55 percent completed and should be finished by the fall. In September the County plans to begin rehabilitating the road which is in poor condition. The roadwork is expected to cost $2.3 million.

Dundalk Cleaning and Lining Water Mains (September Update)

Engineers from Public Works began cleaning and relining water lines in North Dundalk near the Community College in June. The work which will take about two years to complete and cost $3.6 million will affect an area from Merritt Blvd to German Hill Road and down to Sollers Point Road. It is now 15 percent complete.

Major Improvements to Wells Avenue (September Update)

Baltimore County is investing $2.7 million in Wells Avenue from North Point Road to Ross Avenue this year. Construction now 65 percent complete began on May 1 and is expected to be finished in October. The project includes new storm drains and water lines (which are now complete).

Help for Seaside Road (September Update)

Public Works is planning to provide eight residences on Seaside Road with public water and sewer next year in order to protect public health. The project which includes grinder pumps to bring effluent up to the elevation of gravity sewers (costing $200 thousand) and 1600 feet of 12-inch water line (costing $400 thousand) could begin as early as this fall.

Fall 2006 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Baltimore County residents may drop off unwanted household chemicals, paints, pesticides, mercury thermometers, fluorescent light bulbs, ammunition, fireworks and automotive fluids at the Fall Household Hazardous Waste Collection event. It will be held on Saturday, October 21, 9 a.m. - 1p.m. at the Maryland State Fairgrounds on York Road. Please use the Timonium Road entrance. No tires, automobile batteries, computers or other solid waste materials will be accepted.

Public Meetings for the Solid Waste Plan

The County's next "Ten-Year Solid Waste Plan" which will set guidelines for recycling, landfilling, waste prevention and waste-to-energy projects is now being drafted. As part of the process four meetings will be held around the County so residents can have a voice in the future.
