A stream restoration and water quality retrofit project is being completed at the Fields of Renaissance Park (the former Tall Trees site). A gazebo, benches and trails are currently under construction. The new pond was recently stocked with 75 large mouth bass (fingerling) by the Department of Natural Resources. They plan to stock the pond with 350 blue gills in the fall.

The construction of a shoreline enhancement project will begin this fall at Fleming Park. The Fleming Park Shore Erosion Control Project will consist of 3,300 linear feet of shoreline protection. Features include marsh restoration, stone sill, and stone revetment. This project is funded by Baltimore County and Maryland Department of Environment.

Water lines for the entire Edgemere community are being cleaned and lined this year as part of a $3.5 million, two-year project to improve water quality and enhance fire protection. The improvements, begun in September and now 70 percent complete, will impact about 1500 area residents.

The Wise Avenue Draw Bridge will close for nine months, beginning August 5, while Baltimore County's contractor begins renovating the span's 60-year old electrical system and making mechanical and structural repairs. The span is expected to be closed for nine months and the entire rehabilitation project, which will take about 14 months, is projected to cost $2 million. During construction, traffic will be detoured from Merritt Blvd. to German Hill to North Point Blvds. Trucks will be detoured from Merritt Blvd to North Point Road and then to North Point Blvd. While work progresses, the water lane under the bridge will be kept open.

Baltimore County is planning a major sewer and water project on Kelso. More than two miles of new water main through Rossville, Kelso, Martin Boulevard, and Transverse Avenue will be installed beginning in the late fall. Construction will take more than a year and cost about $4.5 million. Also this year, crews will rehabilitate a sewer line along Kelso Drive. Work should be completed by the end of the year and is expected to cost about $424,000.

Recent drainage problems prompted Public Works to survey conditions along Penwood Avenue in Edgemere. Engineers from the Division of Storm Drains will be examining the area for drainage solutions and producing a cost-benefit analysis with an eye to future fixes. Engineers recently ordered a survey of the site. Results are pending.

In June, Public Works began replacing the Lynch Point Force Main in Edgemere which has been deteriorating for several years. (The project, incidentally, complies with federal consent decree recommendations to improve the County's sewer system.) The new line will take six months to complete (the target date is October) and is expected to cost just under $1 million.

In May, County contractors began replacing a deteriorating 36-inch water line in Grays Road, from Wise Avenue south. This major rehabilitation job, expected to cost about $1.4 million, is 40 percent completed and should be finished by summer's end. Then, in September, the County plans to begin rehabilitating the road which is in poor condition. The roadwork is expected to cost $2.3 million.

Engineers from Public Works began cleaning and relining water lines in North Dundalk near the Community College in June. The work, which will take about two years to complete and cost $3.6 million, will affect an area from Merritt Blvd, to German Hill Road, and down to Sollers Point Road.

Public Works is replacing a sewer force main in the Dundalk Roundabout this year as part of the Community's improvement program. Construction on the 20-inch line, which began in May, will cost $613 thousand dollars and may be finished before the end of the month.

Baltimore County is investing $2.7 million in Wells Avenue, from North Point Road to Ross Avenue, this year. Construction began on May 1 and is expected to be finished in October. The project includes new storm drains and water lines, and is now 65 percent complete.

Construction on the Edgepoint force main and pumping station is expected to begin in August. The $1.4 million renovation and construction job, which will take a year to finish, is being done to bring the County's sanitary sewer system up to Federal and environmental standards.

Crews are working on traffic calming improvements for Beachwood and Bletzer roads this month in the Briarwood Estates, installing three traffic calming islands to help slow traffic. And residents on Seling Avenue, between Philadelphia Road and Sagamore Road have received preliminary approval for traffic calming measures. Public Works will begin planning traffic improvements when the community agrees to proceed with changes.

Public Works is planning to provide seven residences on Seaside Road with public water and sewer next year in order to protect public health. The project, which includes grinder pumps to bring effluent up to the elevation of gravity sewers, is expected to cost $200,000 and could begin in January 2007.
