Pro Bono Day 2013

You are invited to discuss your civil legal problems one-on-one with volunteer attorneys at a legal clinic on Saturday October 12, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the American Legion Post 109, 1610 Old Sulphur Spring Road, Arbutus, Maryland 21227.

This event is free and no registration is required.

Types of issues include:

  • Wills and advance directives
  • Bankruptcy

Baltimore County Commission on Disabilities 23rd Annual Awards Ceremony and Luncheon

The Baltimore County Commission on Disabilities will hold its 23rd Annual Awards Ceremony and Luncheon on Wednesday, October 16, at noon at the Sheraton Baltimore North, 903 Dulaney Valley Road in Towson.

This year, we have 15 winners in categories ranging from Teacher and Student of the Year, to Employer and Family Support. Of note, Mr. Darren Guest will receive this year's Chairperson's Special Award. See samples of Mr. Guest's work.

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz will be on hand to present Executive Citations to the winners, and Ms. Kathleen Cairns of WBFF Fox 45 will be our Master of Ceremonies.

Cost is $10. All are invited.

CIP Citizen Input Meeting

The Capital Improvement Program will host the Citizen Input Meeting on Thursday, October 17, at 5 p.m. in Room 104 of the Jefferson Building, 105 West Chesapeake Avenue in Towson.

The Baltimore County Planning Board welcomes citizens to participate in the annual review of the Capital Improvement Program for fiscal years 2015 through 2020. The meeting allows citizen comments to be considered as County agencies formulate their requests. The agency requests will be submitted to the Planning Board in January for review and approval.

Big Trees Sale

We are pleased to announce the 8th bi-annual Big Trees Sale hosted by EPS. The Big Trees sale will take place Saturday October 12, 2013. Residents will have the option for several early pick-up dates at our nursery if they can't make it to the sale. This year we are also offering Tree Shelter Kits to better protect trees from deer.

Wye Road Pumping Station

The Wye Road Sewer Pumping Station, between Hopkins Creek and Norman Creek, in Middle River will be completely overhauled. Construction will begin in October and is expected to be finished by June, 2014. The cost is $979,000.

Traffic Calming

Slater Avenue, between Hanf Avenue and Manorfield Road has been approved for speed humps. Construction is scheduled for the fall.

Campbell Boulevard Phase 2

Campbell Boulevard, from US 40 to Bird River Road, will be under construction this year and is to be completed in approximately two years. When completed, this three-lane road – with sidewalks – will be almost one mile long and cost $6 million.

Bengies Sewer Pumping Station

The Bengies Sewer Pumping Station is being extensively improved. Work, costing $6.47 million, began in late June and will be finished in about a year.

Mohrs Lane Bridge

The Mohrs Lane Bridge over the CSX Railroad, north of Pulaski Highway, was closed in 2007 because of structural deterioration. Demolition was completed by CSX in March 2011, at no cost to Baltimore County which has assumed ownership and plans to rebuild the span. A new bridge is currently being designed with construction scheduled for 2015. This bridge will be part of the future Campbell Boulevard Corridor.
