Fall 2006 Speaker Series: Transit Oriented Design

The Office of Planning will continue its Fall 2006 Speaker Series with a discussion on transit oriented design. The series will feature Paul Morris, the principal for PB Placemaking in Washington D.C., who will speak on the topic of "New Vitality for Older Communities." The dialogue will be held on Thursday, November 16 at the County Courts Building, Room 407, 401 Bosley Avenue in Towson (enter from the Courthouse Plaza).

Citizen Input Meeting Scheduled for the Capital Improvement Program

The Baltimore County Planning Board, in conjunction with County agencies, welcomes citizens to participate in the annual review of the Capital Improvement Program for fiscal years 2008 through 2013. The meeting will take place on Thursday, November 16 at 6 p.m. at the County Courts Building, Room 407, 401 Bosley Avenue in Towson (enter from the Courthouse Plaza). The meeting allows citizen comments to be considered as County agencies formulate their requests. The agency requests will be submitted to the Planning Board in January for review and approval. If you are unable to attend, you may also provide written comments to the Planning Board. Veterans Day Commemoration

County Executive Jim Smith and the Baltimore County Council cordially invite all County Veterans and their families to a ceremony honoring Veterans of Armed Services on November 9 at 11 a.m. The event will be held at the National Guard Armory, 307 Washington Avenue in Towson. The County Executive will make remarks, the Lansdowne High School ROTC will present colors, and the Patapsco High School Show Choir will perform a patriotic routine including renditions of all services' anthems.

Baltimore Watershed Agreement

The County Executive and the Mayor of Baltimore will officially sign a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in November - Date-to-be-determined. Check the County's web site for more information. This MOU outlines the cooperative management and monitoring of the County and City's shared watersheds. Five areas of focus include Stormwater Management, Community Greening, Development and Redevelopment, Public Health, and Trash.

The stream restoration project has been awarded. Construction will begin late fall. The project limits are from the Riderwood Hills Park at Kenilworth downstream to the end of Marleigh Circle.

Sewers for Loreley Beach Begun (November Update)

Responding to community health concerns, Public Works will begin constructing the Loreley Beach Connection System before the end of the year. The new system, which will take a year to complete and cost about $1.2 million, will serve about 80 homes southeast of the County's landfill. The project includes grinder pumps for the area.

Troubled Waterlines in York Road Being Addressed  (November Update)

Public Works is planning a major waterline replacement project along York Road, the site of frequent breaks in recent years. The first of three phases should begin by mid-September, between the Beltway and Ridgely Road, where crews are replacing the failing 12-inch line with a modern 24-inch diameter line. Construction will be done in tandem with the State Highway Administration's York Road Widening Project.

Seneca Park's Failing Septic Systems to get Relief  Community Meeting (November Update)

Baltimore County plans to invest $2.9 million in the Nollmeyer-Seneca Park Collection System to provide one hundred homes with public sewerage which are on failing septic tanks. The project, which includes grinder pumps and 5500 feet of pressure and gravity sewer pipe, is scheduled to begin in January. The work is being done in conjunction with the Seneca Park Pumping Station. A community meeting to discuss the project is scheduled for November 21, 7:30 p.m. at Seneca Elementary, 545 Carrollwood Road.

Traffic Calming for Perryvale and Vicky Roads Finished (November Update)

Over the summer traffic engineers reviewed Perryvale and Vicky roads for traffic calming improvements, and construction plans were then drawn up for the community's review. They were approved and construction began on September 26. It was finished in early October.

Simms Avenue will get Traffic Calming

Traffic engineers are planning to install four traffic-calming speed humps on Simms Avenue, between Joppa and Magledt roads, this fall - possibly by early November.

Sewers from Towson to Rosedale in the Works (November Update)

Public Works is rehabbing more than six thousand feet of sewer line in six areas this year and into next. The Department plans to spend $361,000 on lines which go through parts of  Kenilworth, Burke, Sussex, Stemmers Run Road, Fullerton Avenue and Oakdale (in Rosedale Terrace).
