Renaissance Square

Renaissance Square, a neighborhood of 115 single-family homes and 81 apartments for independent seniors, is planned for the Essex-Middle River area on Old Eastern Avenue and Back River Neck Road - site of the former Kingsley Park apartments.

Baltimore County has made funds available in the form of special financing to buyers in moderate to middle income ranges who will need to have a minimum of 3 percent of the purchase price in cash for a down payment, and sufficient income and credit to qualify for a conventional mortgage.

The Evergreen Senior Apartments will be available for residents age 62 or above with monthly rents ranging from $330 to $875.

Groundbreaking for the first phase of Renaissance Square is planned for late this year with models available next spring.  Those who want to get placed on an "interest list," or want to learn more about the process to qualify for special financing through home buyer counseling with the Eastside Community Development Corporation, should call Renaissance Square at 410-780-6006, or visit the web site.

Landlords Must Register Rental Units

County officials have announced that the new Rental Registration Law is now in effect, and that owners of most residential rental units in buildings with one to six units must be inspected, registered and licensed by the county on or before July 1, 2008. A landlord who fails to comply with this law is subject to a civil penalty of $1,000.

This law, initiated by the County Council and passed on December 19, extends a pilot program in certain neighborhoods to cover the entire county. The purpose of the law is to protect the safety, health and welfare of tenants of by creating an additional procedure for the enforcement of county codes and violations. Tenants of larger apartment complexes are already protected by the County's Livability Code.
