Loch Raven East Watershed - Steering Committee Meeting

A Small Watershed Action Plan (SWAP) meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 2, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., at the Department of Public Works Safety and Training Academy, 3103 Paper Mill Road, Phoenix, Maryland  21131.

A Small Watershed Action Plan (SWAP) is in development for the Loch Raven East watershed. This planning area includes communities in the Phoenix, Jacksonville and Long Green vicinity, which drain to the Loch Raven Reservoir. The SWAP identifies strategies to bring a small watershed into compliance with water quality standards. Strategies go beyond traditional government capital projects and include actions in partnership with local watershed associations, citizen awareness campaigns and volunteer activities. The steering committee is composed of community and agency representatives and meetings are open to the public. This is the fifth meeting out of six planned for the development of the SWAP.

New Water Pipe for York Road

Baltimore County’s contractors are replacing 9,500 feet of old water line in York Road, between Ridgely and Padonia Roads. The new 24-inch line, double the diameter of the old line, is expected to cost $5 million and take one to three years to install. The project, according to County engineers, is designed “to build redundancy into the system." The County’s contractor, Burgermeister Bell, started the project in April 2010 and should be finished by August. The project is 80 percent complete.
