Loch Raven East Watershed - Community Meeting

A Small Watershed Action Plan (SWAP) meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 6:30 - 8 p.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 13300 Manor Road (corner of Dulaney Valley Road), in Glen Arm 21057.

A Small Watershed Action Plan (SWAP) is in development for the Loch Raven East watershed. This planning area includes communities in the Phoenix, Jacksonville, and Long Green vicinity, which drain to the Loch Raven Reservoir. The SWAP identifies strategies to bring a small watershed into compliance with water quality standards. Community input is integral to the plan, which will guide restoration efforts in the watershed to improve water quality in our drinking water reservoir and stream health. Residents, business owners, and anyone interested in clean water is encouraged to attend.

Hosted by the Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability and the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy.

New Water Pipe for York Road

Baltimore County’s contractors are replacing 9,500 feet of old water line in York Road, between Ridgely and Padonia Roads. The new 24-inch line, double the diameter of the old line, is expected to cost $5 million and take one to three years to install. The project, according to County engineers, is designed “to build redundancy into the system." The County’s contractor, Burgermeister Bell, started the project in April 2010 and should be finished by August 2013. Crews will be on winter shut-down between December and early March. The project is about 82 percent finished, according to engineers. The State Highway Administration plans to re-surface York Road, between Padonia and Timonium roads, next year.
