Vernon Road Bridge Replacement

Baltimore County has closed the Vernon Road Bridge - Bridge No. 523 in the County’s bridge inventory - over Second Mine Branch for five months in order to rebuild the span. Work on the two-lane bridge, 20 feet wide and 29 feet long, began in early June and is expected to be finished in November. During construction Vernon Road will be closed from Graystone Road to Garrett Road and traffic will be detoured along a posted route. The expected cost to update the 90-year old structure is $700,000. A public meeting was held on the proposed work March 24, 2010.

New Water Pipe for York Road

Baltimore County’s contractors are replacing 9,500 feet of old water line in York Road, between Ridgely and Padonia Roads. The new 24-inch line, double the diameter of the old line, is expected to cost $5 million and take one to two years to install. The project, say County engineers, is designed “to build redundancy into the system." The County’s contractor, Burgermeister Bell, started the project in April 2010 and should be finished by November of this year. The project is about 75 percent finished, say engineers. The State Highway Administration plans to re-surface York Road, between Ridgely and Timonium Roads, this spring.

Homeowner Relief and Foreclosure Prevention Workshop

In the ongoing effort to help distressed Maryland homeowners get the relief and assistance that may be available under the recent Mortgage Servicing Settlement, Maryland Attorney Doug Gansler is hosting the settlement informational workshop on Tuesday, July 31, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Randallstown Community Center, 3505 Resource Drive, Randallstown, MD 21133.

If you made your mortgage payments to one of the following banks, you may be eligible for relief:

  • Ally/GMAC
  • Bank of America/ Countrywide
  • Citi
  • JP Morgan Chase/WAMU
  • Wells Fargo/Wachovia

If your mortgage is not serviced by one of these banks, the workshop can help you prevent or deal with foreclosure in the best way possible. Attendees learn how to:

  • Qualify for loan modifications, including principal reduction, if you are in default or at risk for defaulting on your mortgage payments;
  • Be able to refinance at today's historically low interest rates, if you are current in your payments but your home is worth less than the mortgage loan amount.
  • Attendees will also learn about new banking standards that change the way banks deal with borrowers and work one-on-one with housing counselors.

Sponsored by: Attorney General Doug Gansler and Senator Kelley and Delegates Stein and Jones
