Planning Board Public Hearings

Single Stream Recycling Begins this Month

On February 1 single stream recycling collection will begin for all who currently recycle. With single stream, County residents will be able to recycle more items and set out recyclables in a variety of containers, though plastic bags will no longer be accepted.

Water Work in Glyndon to Begin in May

Public Works will begin a major waterline replacement project for parts of Glyndon in May. The Department of Public Works will replace 9,000 feet of pipe in parts of Central Avenue, Butler Road, Waugh Avenue, Prospect Avenue, Worthington Hill and Fisk Avenue. Construction, estimated at $2 million, should be finished by the spring 2011.

Bridge Replacement on Gunpowder Road

Public Works began replacing the 40 foot-long Gunpowder Road Bridge over Georges Run in August 2009. The project which began with utility re-location work by BGE, will cost $700,000. It should be finished by the spring, say engineers. Detours are currently in place.

Water Pumping Station Rehab In Timonium

Public Works will begin replacing the motor controls (and valves) at its water pumping station on Westdale Court in Timonium in July 2009. The rehabilitation, which is estimated to cost $900,000 is expected to take a year and a half and be finished before the end of 2010. Work is now 40 percent complete.

Thornton Mill Road Bridge

Thornton Mill Road Bridge (No. 193) over Western Run will be renovated. Construction, which is expected to cost $700,000, is planned for this spring and is expected to be completed by October. Thornton Road will be posted for detours before construction begins.

Repair Work on Historic Covered Bridge: Closing 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Jericho Road Bridge, built in 1865 and restored in 1982, is scheduled for routine repairs. The bridge, which crosses Gunpowder Falls, will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on specified days this month. Detours will be marked.

Eagle Mill Bridge will be Replaced

Public Works plans to replace the Eagle Mill Bridge over Little Falls. Crews will begin the project in April. The new 35-foot span is estimated to cost $700,000.

More than a Mile of New Water Pipe for York Road

This spring County contractors will begin replacing 9,500 feet of old water line in York Road, between Ridgely and Padonia. The new 24-inch line (double the diameter of the old line) is expected to cost $5 million and take one to two years to install.

Timonium Pumping Station Rehab

Public Works is renovating the Merryman Branch Pumping Station near Padonia Road this year (2010). The project, which will cost $700,000, will include fence gates, new pump motors, impellers and improved lighting. Construction will be finished in April 2011.

Harris Mill Road Bridge

Baltimore County will replace the Harris Mill Road Bridge (No. 191) over Ebaughs Creek. Construction to replace the 20-year-old structure will begin in June and should be finished by September. The new concrete span, which is 30 feet long (same length as the old one), will be slightly wider (22 feet) than the old one and will be a single-span structure, eliminating the central support. The design also includes a stone form liner which gives the appearance of traditional stone construction, according to engineers. The project is expected to cost $550,000.

Notice of Public Hearing by PDM Regarding Police-Initiated Towing Amendment

The Director of the Baltimore County Department of Permits & Development Management will hold a public hearing in Towson, Maryland on an amendment to the Police-Initiated Towing Regulations regarding towing fees for light duty motor vehicles (PDF) gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or less) authorizing a fee for extraordinary circumstances.

The public hearing will be held Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Room 106 of the County Office Building, 111 W. Chesapeake Avenue, Towson, Maryland 21204.

Copies of the proposed regulations are available as follows: Online (PDF), or Room 105, County Office Building, 111 W. Chesapeake Avenue, Towson, Maryland 21204, at each public library in Baltimore County and at the offices of the County Council.

Written comments referencing the proposed regulations shall be mailed or delivered to Room 105, County Office Building, 111 W. Chesapeake Avenue, Towson, Maryland 21204 by Thursday, February 18, 2010.
