The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is offering assistance with the conversion to digital television that will take place in February 2009.
According to the Commission, many people (especially seniors citizens) have not applied for coupons to get the converter boxes necessary for this transition. The FCC would like to help by going to group meetings, conventions, or any large group gatherings to demonstrate the converter box and urge people to call in or go on-line to order the coupons for these boxes. A representative will "walk folks through" the process and demonstrate the set-up of the converter box.
Community groups, senior centers, PTAs, etc. are asked to call Cathy Minderlein at 301-725-0940 to arrange for a FCC representative to attend an upcoming meeting and help members with the February 17, 2009 Digital Television Transition.

Environmental Restoration Projects
Gunpowder Falls at Cromwell Road Bridge Stream Restoration Project is under construction. The Gunpowder Falls is being diverted through a Portadam(r) system while the work is being done to the new streambed. The Lower Spring Branch Stream Restoration Project is complete (the project is from Pot Spring Road to Dulaney Valley Road).

Christmas Tree Collection will begin Monday, January 12 and continue for two weeks. County residents must have their trees out at the curb no later than Sunday, January 18 to ensure pickup.

Waterline on Cockeysville Road Nearing Completion
The replacement of a 60 year old water line in Cockeysville Road, between York and Beaver Dam roads, began in October. The old 8" line is being replaced with a 16" conduit at a cost of $700,000 in order to improve fire protection for the area. Work is expected to be completed in January.
