Comprehensive Zoning Map Process Public Hearing
On March 11 at Loch Raven High School, the Baltimore County Planning Board will conduct a public hearing to obtain testimony on the requests for rezoning. Requests for rezoning are known as Comprehensive Zoning Map issues. Speakers may sign up to speak on issues at 6 p.m. The public hearings will begin at 7 p.m.

Spring 2008 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event
Baltimore County Residents may drop off unwanted household chemicals, paints, pesticides, mercury thermometers, fluorescent light bulbs, ammunition, fireworks and automotive fluids at the Texas Landfill drop off center on Warren Road, between York Road and Beaver Dam Road on Sunday April 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Landlords Must Register Rental Units
County officials have announced that the new Rental Registration Law is now in effect, and that owners of most residential rental units in buildings with one to six units must be inspected, registered and licensed by the county on or before July 1, 2008. A landlord who fails to comply with this law is subject to a civil penalty of $1,000.
This law, initiated by the County Council and passed on December 19, extends a pilot program in certain neighborhoods to cover the entire County. The purpose of the law is to protect the safety, health and welfare of tenants of by creating an additional procedure for the enforcement of county codes and violations. Tenants of larger apartment complexes are already protected by the County's Livability Code.

Repairs for the Mount Vista Road Bridge
Crews began rebuilding the Mount Vista Road Bridge over Sweathouse Branch near Harford Road in February. Work on the two-lane bridge will take about ten months and cost $875,000.

Replacement of the Big Falls Road Bridge
The two-lane, Big Falls Road Bridge (No. 73) over the Gunpowder is Gunpowder is now under construction as crews drive piles and rebuild abutments. The structure, a concrete arch bridge, had been showing signs of deterioration and cracking before it was closed last fall. Engineers expect the work to cost $1.8 million and require a year to fourteen months to complete. During the closure and construction period, traffic will be detoured from Big Falls to Bernoudy to Wiseburg to York to Monkton roads.

Finishing Up at the Texas Sewage Pumping Station
Baltimore County has made major improvements to the Texas Pumping Station off of Recycle Way in Cockeysville. Construction, which began in July '06, should be completed in March. The rehabilitation will cost about $4.2 million.

Repairs to Bridge No. 176, the Long Green Pike bridge, are expected to start this month. The 28-foot span will be replaced with a 50-foot structure. Construction is expected to cost $125,000.

Springlake Water Tank Restoration
Public Works is restoring the Springlake Elevated Storage Tank across from Dulaney High School. The tank, built in the late 1960's, is being rehabilitated on the inside and outside at a cost of $350,000. Work is about 15 percent complete and will be finished in the spring when crews resume work on May 1.

Bond Avenue at Paterwal Court is scheduled to receive a traffic-calming island in March in order to slow traffic on Bond.

The Hillrise Road Bridge over Long Green Creek between Glen Arm and Harford roads was posted in August to limit traffic to vehicles under three tons. It was recently renovated and its superstructure was replaced. Work, which cost about $200,000, began and was completed before the end of January.

Troubled Waterlines in York Road being Addressed
Public Works is planning a major waterline replacement project along York Road, the site of frequent breaks in recent years. The first of three phases began last year between the Beltway and Ridgely Road, where crews have been replacing the failing 12-inch line with a modern 24-inch diameter line. Progress has been a bit slow, according to engineers, but is now about 60 percent complete. The job is being done in tandem with the State Highway Administration's York Road Widening Project.

Traffic Calming for Lincoln Avenue
Residents on Lincoln Avenue, between Bellona and Francke, have requested traffic calming for their neighborhood and recently received plans from the County's traffic engineers to install several speed humps. Residents must review and approve the plans before installation can be scheduled.

Traffic Calming for Reuter Road
Reuter Road between Charmuth and Cinder has qualified for traffic calming. Public Works engineers are now drawing up plans to slow traffic and promote pedestrian safety, which will be submitted to the community in March for approval.

The construction of the Gwynns Falls at Chartley Stream Restoration Project is complete. The project will be planted with trees and shrubs this spring. Construction of the Minebank Run at Waller Court Stream Restoration is complete.
