Water Work in Glyndon

Plans have begun on a major waterline replacement project for parts of Glyndon. The Department of Public Works will replace 9,000 feet of pipe in parts of Central Avenue, Butler Road, Waugh Avenue, Prospect Avenue, Worthington Hill and Fisk Avenue. Construction, estimated at $2 million, is expected to begin in the spring of 2010, and be finished by the spring of 2011. The site was surveyed over the summer and Public Works has started designing the project.

Bridge Replacement on Gunpowder Road

Public Works began replacing the forty-foot-long Gunpowder Road Bridge over Georges Run in August. The project which began with utility re-location work by BGE, will cost $700,000. It should be finished by the spring of next year, say engineers. Detours are currently in place.

Water Pumping Station Rehab In Timonium

Public Works will begin replacing the motor controls (and valves) at its water pumping station on Westdale Court in Timonium this November. The rehabilitation, which is estimated to cost $900,000 is expected to take a year and a half and be finished before the end of 2010. Work is now 15 percent complete.

Monkton Road Bridge Closed

Baltimore County closed the Monkton Road Bridge, which spans Charles Run, at the beginning of August in order to repair the deteriorating structure. Construction was anticipated to take six weeks but because of un-anticipated structural problems, work has been extended through mid November. During construction of the 48-foot span, estimated to cost $100,000, traffic on Monkton Road is being detoured to Old York, Troyer and Shepperd.

The Shawan Road - Cuba Road Intersection

Public Works has selected a design to improve the Shawan Road-Cuba Road Intersection. The announcement, and an explanation of the decision, was posted on the department's web site in mid September.

Thornton Mill Road Bridge

Thornton Mill Road Bridge (No. 193) over Western Run will be renovated. Construction, which is expected to cost $700,000, is planned for next spring.

Sparks Road to Close for a Week

Baltimore County will close a portion of Sparks Road (between Sparks Station Road and the Gunpowder Falls State Park) Monday, November 2 in order to repair erosion undermining one lane of the travel surface. The road will be closed through the week and will be reopened the following Monday, November 9.  During construction traffic will be detoured to Glencoe Road.

Repair Work on Historic Covered Bridge: Closing 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Jericho Road Bridge, built in 1865 and restored in 1982, is scheduled for routine repairs. The bridge, which crosses Gunpowder Falls, will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. from November 2 to November 24. During the construction period detours will be marked.

Eagle Mill Bridge will be Replaced

Public Works plans to replace the Eagle Mill Bridge over Little Falls.  Crews will begin the project next April 2010. The new 35-foot span is estimated to cost $700,000.

PDM Public Hearing - Proposed Regulations for Police Initiated Towing

Public Hearing - Regulation of Police Initiated Towing

The Director of the Department of Permits and Development Management will hold a public hearing in Towson, Maryland on proposed regulations that apply to persons applying for and maintaining a Baltimore County Police-Initiated Towing License. Written comments referencing the proposed regulations shall be mailed or delivered to Room 105, County Office Building, 111 West Chesapeake Avenue, Towson, Maryland 21204 by Thursday, November 12, 2009.

Description: A Police-Initiated Towing License replaces the Licensed Accident Towing License in accordance with Bill 67-07 enacted by the Baltimore County Council on September 4, 2007 which also directed that Police Department requests for towing be made to a County contractor who will provide the towing services requested.
