The Department of Public Works will hold an open meeting on upcoming rural infrastructure projects on Tuesday, April 14 in the cafeteria at Hereford High School, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Hereford High is located at 17301 York Road in Parkton. The meeting is a follow-up to last year's approved Rural Roads Standards, which codified standards and policies for road and bridge maintenance in the County's rural areas. The replacement of a 60-year old water line in Cockeysville Road, between York and Beaver Dam roads, began in October 2008. The old 8-inch line is being replaced with a 16-inch conduit at a cost of $700,000 in order to improve fire protection for the area. The road will be repaved upon completion of the project. Plans have begun on a major waterline replacement project for parts of Glyndon. The Department of Public Works plans to replace 9,000 feet of pipe in parts of Central Avenue, Butler Road, Waugh Avenue, Prospect Avenue, Worthington Hill and Fisk Avenue. Work, estimated at $2 million, is expected to begin in the spring of next year, 2010, and be finished by the spring of 2011. Information: enginrng@baltimorecountymd.gov Back to top
Baltimore County will close the Western Run Road Bridge in Butler on Monday, April 6 in order to repair an end wall which has taken a pounding from local traffic. The bridge, located just east of Falls Road, will be reopened Monday morning, April 13, say County engineers. During construction traffic will be detoured to Miller, Cuba and Belfast roads. Built in 1974 to span Black Rock Run, the bridge is 110 feet long and one lane wide. Repairs, which include an anti-skid coating for the metal deck, will cost about $15,000.

Public Works plans to replace the Gunpowder Road Bridge over Georges Run beginning in August of this year. The 40-foot long bridge is expected to be under construction by the end of summer and completed by the spring of next year.
