Crews will begin rebuilding the Mount Vista Road Bridge over Sweathouse Branch near Harford Road in June. Work on the two-lane bridge will take about ten months and cost $875 thousand. Completion is expected in February of 2009.

The two-lane, Big Falls Road Bridge (No. 73) over the Gunpowder is now under construction as crews drive piles and rebuild abutments. The structure, a concrete arch bridge, had been showing signs of deterioration and cracking before it was closed last fall. Engineers expect the work to cost $1.8 million and require a year to fourteen months to complete. During the closure and construction period, traffic will be detoured from Big Falls to Bernoudy to Wiseburg to York to Monkton roads.

Repairs to Bridge No. 176, the Long Green Pike Bridge, started in early June. The 28-foot span will be replaced with a 50-foot structure of pre-stressed concrete. The bridge, built in 1916 and spanning Long Green Creek, has been posted to restrict vehicles weighing over ten tons and was temporarily repaired last year in anticipation of a complete replacement and widening of the old structure this summer. Construction, which will be finished by the end of August, is expected to cost $300 thousand.

Public Works is restoring the Springlake Elevated Storage Tank across from Dulaney High School. The tank, built in the late 1960's, is being rehabilitated on the inside and outside at a cost of $350 thousand. Work should be finished in July.

The County's traffic engineers are currently discussing traffic calming measures with the Glyndon community and are exploring the possibility of removing stop signs and replacing them with traffic calming devices. A community meeting was scheduled for June 30th.

Five Streets in Historic Lutherville recently qualified for traffic calming measures: Morris Avenue, Melancthon Avenue, Division Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, and Front Street. Engineers from Public Works have drawn up plans to fit the historic community, including speed humps with brick tops, which have been submitted to residents for their approval.
