The Baltimore County Planning Board will meet on Thursday, May 15 at 5 p.m. for a public hearing at the County Courts Building, Room 407, 401 Bosley Avenue in Towson (enter from the Courthouse Plaza) on Chesapeake Bay Critical Area growth allocation request for the Vandermast Property. This property is located near the intersection of Holly Neck Road and Goff Road in Baltimore County, Maryland. The growth allocation request is for a reclassification of approximately 18 acres from Resource Conservation Area to Limited Development Area. County officials have announced that the new Rental Registration Law is now in effect, and that owners of most residential rental units in buildings with one to six units must be inspected, registered and licensed by the county on or before July 1, 2008. A landlord who fails to comply with this law is subject to a civil penalty of $1,000.
This law, initiated by the County Council and passed on December 19, extends a pilot program in certain neighborhoods to cover the entire county. The purpose of the law is to protect the safety, health and welfare of tenants of by creating an additional procedure for the enforcement of county codes and violations. Tenants of larger apartment complexes are already protected by the County's Livability Code.

Crews will begin rebuilding the Mount Vista Road Bridge over Sweathouse Branch near Harford Road this month. Work on the two-lane bridge will take about ten months and cost $875,000.

The two-lane, Big Falls Road Bridge (No. 73) over the Gunpowder is now under construction as crews drive piles and rebuild abutments. The structure, a concrete arch bridge, had been showing signs of deterioration and cracking before it was closed last fall. Engineers expect the work to cost $1.8 million and require a year to fourteen months to complete. During the closure and construction period, traffic will be detoured from Big Falls to Bernoudy to Wiseburg to York to Monkton roads.

Repairs to Bridge No. 176, the Long Green Pike Bridge, are expected to start in June. The 28-foot span will be replaced with a 50-foot structure of pre-stressed concrete. Construction is expected to cost $125,000 and be finished in July.

Public Works is restoring the Springlake Elevated Storage Tank across from Dulaney High School. The tank, built in the late 1960's, is being rehabilitated on the inside and outside at a cost of $350,000. Work is about 40 percent complete and will be finished in the spring when crews resume work on May 1.

The County's traffic engineers are currently discussing traffic calming measures with the Glyndon community and are exploring the possibility of removing stop signs and replacing them with traffic calming devices. No agreement has been reached yet.
