Digital Television TransitionThe Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is offering assistance with the conversion to digital television that will take place in February.
According to the Commission, many people (especially seniors citizens) have not applied for coupons to get the converter boxes necessary for this transition. The FCC would like to help by going to group meetings, conventions, or any large group gatherings to demonstrate the converter box and urge people to call in or go online to order the coupons for these boxes. A representative will "walk folks through" the process and demonstrate the set-up of the converter box.
Community groups, senior centers, PTAs, etc. are asked to call Cathy Minderlein at 301-725-0940 to arrange for a FCC representative to attend an upcoming meeting and help members with the February 17 Digital Television Transition.
Information: Cathy Minderlein, FCC, 9200 Farm House Lane, Columbia, MD 21046, Call 301-725-0940 or 301-725-1996.

DPW contractors began cleaning and repainting (inside and out) two water storage tanks on Pleasant Hill in June. Together the two tanks hold 1.3 million gallons of water and the rehabilitation will cost $900,000. The small tank was completed in November 2008. The larger tank is expected to be completed by the middle of 2009. Work is on schedule, say engineers.

Water Lines Cleaned in Ruxton Ahead of Schedule
The Department of Public Works has completed a major water line rehabilitation in the Ruxton area between Belona, Malvern, Charles, and Joppa roads. Most of the old pipes serving about 600 homes have been cleaned and lined, improving pressure for the community. Only the line on Roland View Avenue remains, say engineers. It will be finished in late spring, crews are currently on winter shutdown.
