Pro Bono Day 2013

You are invited to discuss your civil legal problems one-on-one with volunteer attorneys at a legal clinic on Saturday October 12, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the American Legion Post 109, 1610 Old Sulphur Spring Road, Arbutus, Maryland 21227.

This event is free and no registration is required.

Types of issues include:

  • Wills and advance directives
  • Bankruptcy

Baltimore County Commission on Disabilities 23rd Annual Awards Ceremony and Luncheon

The Baltimore County Commission on Disabilities will hold its 23rd Annual Awards Ceremony and Luncheon on Wednesday, October 16, noon, at the Sheraton Baltimore North, 903 Dulaney Valley Road in Towson.

This year, we have 15 winners in categories ranging from Teacher and Student of the Year, to Employer and Family Support. Of note, Mr. Darren Guest will receive this year's Chairperson's Special Award. See samples of Mr. Guest's work.

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz will be on hand to present Executive Citations to the winners, and Ms. Kathleen Cairns of WBFF Fox 45 will be our Master of Ceremonies.

Cost is $10. All are invited.

CIP–Citizen Input Meeting

The Capital Improvement Program will host the Citizen Input Meeting on Thursday, October 17, at 5 p.m. in Room 104 of the Jefferson Building, 105 West Chesapeake Avenue in Towson.

The Baltimore County Planning Board welcomes citizens to participate in the annual review of the Capital Improvement Program for fiscal years 2015 through 2020. The meeting allows citizen comments to be considered as County agencies formulate their requests. The agency requests will be submitted to the Planning Board in January for review and approval.

Big Trees Sale

We are pleased to announce the 8th bi-annual Big Trees Sale hosted by EPS. The Big Trees sale will take place Saturday October 12, 2013. Residents will have the option for several early pick-up dates at our nursery if they can't make it to the sale. This year we are also offering Tree Shelter Kits to better protect trees from deer.

Traffic Calming

Beaumont Avenue in Catonsville, between Frederick Road and Edmonson Avenue, recently received traffic calming measures, speed humps and a raised intersection, in addition to sidewalks to serve the library.

Sidewalks for Sulphur Spring and Johnnycake

Baltimore County is installing sidewalks along the south side of Sulphur Spring Road, between the Arbutus Library and Shelbourne Road. The long-awaited pedestrian improvement, a safety enhancement for Arbutus, will be 1,700 feet in length and cost $300,000. Sidewalks are also on schedule for Johnnycake Road. Construction should be completed by the fall.

Water Main to Serve Howard County

Contractors will begin replacing a 36-inch diameter water main running from the railroad tracks near Clark Boulevard, down to South Street and then through the Patapsco State Park. The new line, which will serve Howard County, will be 5,500 feet long. The pipe has been manufactured; construction will begin in September and the project should be finished in about two years.

Street Improvements in the District

Wilson Avenue and Landington Avenue are under construction. Gehb Avenue and Georgia Avenue construction are now complete.

Bridge Repairs on Valley Road, Road Closure Planned

The Department of Public Works is repairing two bridges on Valley Road in Catonsville: bridges B-0300 and B-0310, near Rolling Road. The work started during the week of August 19 and should finish before the end of the year. The project, which includes some stream restoration, is expected to cost $300,000. A road closure is planned for 10 weeks beginning in early October in order to allow access for heavy equipment.
