Planning Board Meetings

Baltimore County Historic Preservation – NACo Award

The Preservation Services Division of the Department of Planning was granted a 2013 NACo Achievement Award in the category of Arts and Historic Preservation for their Historic Preservation Design Guidelines publication. The award recognizes innovative county programs that have yielded positive results for county residents. The Historic Preservation Design Guidelines were developed to be a resource for citizens who are interested in rehabilitating historic homes.

Middle Gwynns Falls Watershed - Community Meeting

A Small Watershed Action Plan (SWAP) meeting will be held on Thursday, July 18, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Randallstown Library, 8604 Liberty Road, Randallstown, Maryland  21133.

Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability (EPS) and Blue Water Baltimore will host a community meeting to discuss the development of a Small Watershed Action Plan (SWAP) for the Middle Gwynns Falls watershed. This planning area includes communities in the Pikesville, Randallstown and Woodlawn vicinity, which drain to the Gwynns Falls. Community input is integral in creating the plan, which will guide restoration efforts in the watershed to improve water quality in Baltimore County’s streams and the Chesapeake Bay.

Sidewalks for Sulphur Spring and Johnnycake

Baltimore County is installing sidewalks along the south side of Sulphur Spring Road this spring, between the Arbutus Library and Shelbourne Road. The long-awaited pedestrian improvement, a safety enhancement for Arbutus, will be 1,700 feet in length and cost $300,000. Sidewalks are also on schedule for Johnnycake Road. Construction should be completed by the fall.

Water Main to Serve Howard County

Contractors will begin replacing a 36-inch diameter water main running from the railroad tracks near Clark Boulevard, down to South Street and then through the Patapsco State Park. The new line, which will serve Howard County, will be 5,500 feet long. The pipe has been manufactured; construction will begin in August and the project should be finished in about two years.

Street Improvements in the District

Work on Georgia Avenue in Baltimore Highlands is underway; crews have been paving and installing new curbs and gutters since February. The improvements, estimated to exceed $1 million, should be completed by the fall, according to Public Works engineers. In addition, road improvements to Wilson Avenue and Landington (both in Westview) and Gebh (in Lansdowne) will start this summer and be finished in the fall.

Bridge Repairs on Valley Road

The Department of Public Works plans to repair two bridges on Valley Road in Catonsville: bridges B-0300 and B-0310, near Rolling Road. Work was expected to begin in October 2012, but was delayed because of regulatory issues. Valley Road is now expected to be closed in June and the work should start shortly thereafter. The project, which includes some stream restoration, is expected to cost $300,000.
