The Baltimore County Planning Board, in conjunction with County agencies, welcomes citizens to participate in the annual review of the Capital Improvement Program for fiscal years 2011 through 2016. The Board will meet on Thursday, October 15 at 6 p.m. in the Jefferson Building, Room 104, 105 W. Chesapeake Avenue in Towson. The meeting allows citizens' comments to be considered as County agencies formulate their requests. Agencies' requests will be submitted to the Planning Board in January for review and approval. Baltimore County is spending more than $23 million to clean, line and repair more than five miles of sewer line which parallels the Patapsco River between I-95 and Annapolis Road. The Department of Public Works is completely rehabilitating the Patapsco Sewage Pump Station, located near Annapolis Road in Halethorpe. The facelift for Hammonds Ferry Road in Lansdowne is almost finished, say County engineers. The busy street has been resurfaced, trees planted, new sidewalks and traffic calming islands installed, streetlights mounted and a new bus stop erected. Public Works will improve the water lines in the area bounded by Hammonds Ferry and Hollins Ferry Road and the Baltimore City line. Water mains serving about 2,000 residences will be cleaned, relined and chlorinated. The project, which began in August, is expected to cost $2.2 million and should be completed within two years. The Department of Public Works plans to repair two bridges near Spring Grove in Catonsville on Valley Road. Both are between Wilkens and Holmes. Construction, which is expected to cost about $300,000, should begin by early November and be finished in the spring. The work also includes stream restoration. The Department of Public Works will replace the aging and troublesome eight-inch water main on South Rolling Road, from Gun Road to UMBC's Research Park this fall. The new line will be 12 inches in diameter and cost $350,000. Construction, say engineers, should begin in November and be completed in January, with cooperative weather.
